The Development Permit for Telus Sky is now submitted. The rumour is that tenants will begin leaving Art Central by December of this year, hopefully completing eviction by January sometime. Demolition could begin before summer even, which was their intended start date. Perhaps that start date actually just meant excavation on the building itself would begin in the summer, with site prep completed before that. Anyways, fantastic news. Another 700+ footer for Calgary all but a certainty now.

Awesome news. So the One Yonge towers are creating copycat development on the east side of the core, I guess.

_________

Old News: Ten York is scheduled to begin construction next month (November) lets see how true that is to holding up, I walk by the parking lot weekly and there is currently no signs of it closing up shop at all.

65 storeys is far too tall for that site. I couldn't think of worst news. This is the East Bayfront afterall.

Ten York doesn't have all its ducks lined up yet with the city.

I don't think Daniels have done anything of that size before (Guvernment site), have they?

Daniels tallest to date would likely be the Festival Tower which is about 525 feet/ 157 meters or so.

This would be them pushing into the big leagues, with Great Gulf, Tridel, Canderel Stoneridge, Lanterra and Menkes.

Daniels? It just gets even worse. Luckily, this one has zero chance.

Meh, who cares when Ten York starts? That project is a bore. I'm eagerly awaiting signs of activity at the Massey Tower site.

Massey has filed for construction permits, it will be starting VERY soon along with E condos (which has also filed for permits) Ten York is supposed to start in November.

65 floor is too tall for Guvernment. The site is supposed to get something along the scale of Monde, 150-160 meters with around 50 floors. Initial projections for towers always get shortened anyways. (2 Queen west was originally 75 floors, now 65, One Yonge was 98 floors, now 88, etc)

It appears now that the hotel tenant of Calgary City Centre will be Fairmont, making Calgary one of only two major Canadian cities to have more than one Fairmont Hotel. It is supposed to start construction before City Centre East is topped out.

City Centre West - 161 meters - 47 floors

Maybe but probably not.

Fairmont Palliser is not owned by Fairmont, just managed by them. Hotels owned by REITs can and frequently do change their branding/management company.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have an agreement to continue operating as a Fairmont until the new Fairmont can be opened.

Innvest REIT, the current owner of the Fairmont Palliser, is a huge shareholder of Choice Hotels (Quality Inn, Sleep Inn, Comfort Inn, Cambria Suites, ...) so it would make sense for them to re-brand under one of those labels.

Rumour at UT was that Daniels wants to put their head office on the site in addition to condos. I could see this being a signature project with better-than-usual design.

The Palliser is a four star hotel in downtown Calgary. It's one of these 100 year old former CP hotels.

That's not likely, at all Are many Quality Inn's located in 100 year old luxury properties? It has been a Fairmont Hotel since 1999, before that, it was a CP Grand Railway Hotel for 85 years. I stayed there last year. It really is as beautiful as it looks. They certainly won't be downgrading it to a 2 or 3 star "Choice Hotel"

Supposed to be three buildings in total on the site - one being a residence building for George Brown

It's still a residential tower that would tower over the community. I've yet to see a developer's head office that wow'd me.

Actually, wasn't the Monde site the tallest tower in the East Bayfront plan? I think 135 to 140 metres with an absolute ceiling of 150 metres is the tallest that should be built there.

The Palliser in Calgary is a Gem. Love buildings like that from that era! Nice to hear CCII has got a hotel tenant on board.
