Well there you go. The last time I was able to speak with the owner was end of Aug. My comments are based on actual conversations with very high up people within an individual project. I try to share some of the stuff I hear but sometimes things change. I never make stuff up, and never comment from a guy who heard it from a guy.

The architects are working in joint-venture on this project.
Project: cast-in-place concrete structural frame, fuel fired heating system, construction of a 250-room, 18-storey hotel adjacent to the Winnipeg Convention Centre. The project will include one storey of underground parking with 151 spaces to be shared with the WCC. The project will be connected to the WCC by a second floor walkway.

That is not the lakeview site. It is the convention centre hotel. Lakeview is done.

What's the other hotel?

This is the hotel planned as part of the convention centre expansion since day one. Ray Wan is the architect. I'm guessing fin wall and/or hat combination. He appears to have moved from orange to his red period so maybe look for that too.

The lakeview myth has finally officially died.

I'm confused. So the parking lot that got ripped open is for WCC's expansion, along with a hotel on top of that podium being built on top of that parking lot. But the motel just north of the WCC, in the picture provided, is getting demolished for a new one?

the hotel we're talking about is going where the Carlton Inn is/was. that is the WCC hotel. no hotel on top of the convention centre. lakeview is cancelled, that was on a completely different site (SW corner of Edmonton and St Mary I think)

I was under the impression that there are two hotel proposals left in this area. As mentioned above, the Winnipeg Convention Centre hotel on the Carlton Hotel site and a second hotel as part of So/Po:

Headhorse. Correct. The Carlton hotel is the site if the WCC hotel. Lakeview's site was to the west of the WCC. The hotel proposed for the SoPo site was conceptual at best. I've been told it's not likely. It wasn't a real proposal. More of a wish.

Seems there are too many hotel proposals for downtown lately. Here is a summary:

WCC hotel (existing) - Delta on St Marys - undergoing renovations
WCC hotel (south) - shown on parking lot south of York in early renders - moved
WCC hotel (north) - new construction on the site of Carlton Inn - in planning stages.
Lakeview (west of WCC) - announced plans for two hotels on this site, both currently dead.
SoPo - hotel announced as part of the project, no further details provided, unlikely to proceed
Portage & Main (Project W) - announced, currently in pre-construction phase.
ALT Hotel (Donald/Portage northwest corner) - currently under construction.

For those of you playing along at home, this was the second (or third?) time Lakeview has announced and then cancelled their WCC hotel. Look for it to come back to life again in five-ten years.

I noticed a crane drilling a giant corkscrew (is that the technical term?) into the SW corner of the Fortress site. It looked pretty much like what was going on at the "Project W" site a few months back... is this part of the geotechnical phase?

I also see that Centreventure's offices in Cityplace are open. The Main Street office is now empty... I wonder what will fill that spot? It's a much more desirable location now than it would have been five years ago.

I like the looks, but still think that they are money wasters. As for the reason why:

I think this would be great for Fort/Garry to move back to 2-way, keep Smith and Donald as 1-way, then Hargrave and Carlton to 2-way.
