New retail space at 715 Peachtree?

Drove by 715 Peachtree last night and noticed that they have removed the blank walls that have fronted Peachtree and 3rd street, and appeared to have replaced them with glass retail.

I noticed that they've only got one door, on the very far right, so I am assuming that it'll be some type of huge restaurant or one huge clothing/something. I was hoping a coffee shop maybe in that area. or a few things. Not just one thing but I am soooo not gonna complain. I have been thinking that they could do something better with that space for years and now they have

Construction Update #6.6

Midtown
AMLI Midtown Apartments: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcbT7-TRzi8
I haven't been able to find any info on this proposed tower across the street from Arts Center MARTA Station on W. Peachtree St. It's on the map.atlantadev.com/ and I remember reading about it this year but I can't find a source. Little help?

975 Piedmont: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRQ6uHXQS4Y
IMO these townhomes will look out of place. 4 practically on-the-street uber modern units sandwiched inbetween a parking lot and a beautiful house. I wonder how the neighbors feel?

77 12th Street: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJQyQk-UVFY
Even though residence have moved in, none of the retail has. It looks like a Burger Joint and a Mexican Restaurant have taken up signage on the doors but that's about it. If you look in the windows, it's still unfinished with no sign of construction. Why's it taking so long?

33 Peachtree Place: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy8pT8qCq44
19 floors, 400,000-sqft project would include 350 apartments and 20,000 square feet of retail space.

The Castle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmn0UGW704s
A 12,000-square-foot historic home that overlooks the Woodruff Arts Center, is getting a $3 million renovation — transforming the property on 15th Street into an upscale restaurant and lounge, with a handful of luxury hotel suites

Hyatt Atlanta Midtown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQFjIhwpI9o
The renovation is almost 100% complete. The inside looks really good especially the lounge/bar. Excellent work!

The Crum & Forster Building: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNm2xXsmwYM
The back half of the building has been chopped off. It looks like a few pallets of the old bricks are being saved. Here's how it looked before. I asked local APD security what the crews were working on, he said the sidewalks.

Peachtree St and 10th St Pocket Park: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhM52hNFzt8
Badminton anyone? I wonder how long the rackets and birdies make it before they are stolen. They look unused. This pocket park also boasts an acoustic/artist performance space but I don't see it. Interesting park nevertheless

Viewpoint Retail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3zzxl6O-KY
"Loudermilk purchased the retail component at Viewpoint from Novare and has plans to upgrade the facade as well as plans to open up additional space on the 7th street side in hopes of drawing a grocer like Fresh Market or Sprouts Farmer’s Market. Additionally, the space on the 7th street side would be converted into a flexible plaza / parking area." *Source It desperately needs an upgrade!

University House: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__R8_Q1G3KY
I can confirm site work is underway on this 17-floor student housing tower. I'm looking forward to this one!

SkyHouse South: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5D7rSFn02yg
The tower has topped out and so has the parking deck! It looks like Novare changed the crown, and painted the parking deck another color but other than that, it's pretty much cookie cutter SkyHouse Midtown.

Georgia Proton Treatment Center: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gK2dTDONX28
Construction is up to the 2nd floor.

131 Ponce de Leon Ave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnRvOgqWRP8
Crews are working on the 2nd floor.

Unknown Building @ Williams St, 16th & Spring St: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmhjTDDCyew
Unknown Buildings @ Juniper St & 5th St: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X26QXx7P4rw
768 Juniper St: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6Sm5N9gsQU
I ran across these walking between developments and I wanted to capture them before they either got bulldozed or redeveloped.

Your first unknown building at Williams and 16th used to be a funeral home. It closed in the late 90's early 00's. I forget the name but I think it specialized in Jewish Funerals. I think.

Thanks for your great video updates too! I always enjoy them.

Anyone want to take a stab at the density added from 2008 - 2013. And also that will be added from 2013 - 2018. In Midtown and Downtown only...

Another interesting renovation is just a few blocks away: the parking deck along W. Peachtree at 5th St is getting a big section of two story buildout facing west and Tech Square. Can't tell if it's offices or retail but it will be nice to not just have that blank wall anymore.

If only someone could do something similar with the deck south of there between 3rd & 4th St. That thing is hideous

Interesting point to ponder. I have no idea but found this pretty cool video. It's specifically about how much Midtown has changed over the years.

Yeah, that giant deck destroys that area. But it seems like development will slowly work its way south.

In the vaguest of vague rumors, I heard GT is anxious to redevelop that horrible lot across from B&N. Can't happen soon enough for this area.

Midtown already has quite a variety of architectural styles and I think they'll fit in quite well. The 'beautiful house' next door is at least 3 apartments so I can't imagine there will be much heard from them.
I actually wonder more about how the townhome owners will feel about their neighbors. I envision something similar to what happened to Backstreet taking place with Blake's. The townhouse owners will be thrilled with their glamorous new urban location and then do their best to shut Blake's down because of the noise.

Coming Soon: Beltline Link To Historic 4th Ward Park

Work on the Beltline's connection to Historic Fourth Ward Park may begin in mere months — and there are renderings to prove it. Beltline spokesman Ethan Davidson said Wednesday that construction on "The Gateway" is expected to begin in early 2014. Progress is always good news, and this tidbit means the Eastside Trail will soon be connected to the 12 acres of greenspace, playgrounds and the World's Prettiest Retention Pond that make up Historic Fourth Ward Park. Judging by the renderings, The Gateway will be a winding, well-landscaped path with a sort of mini-park of its own.

This is one of the best relatively small and easy things they can do along the Beltline right now. Old Fourth Ward Park is going to get so much more use and those apartments along it will be able to access the Beltline so much easier. I'm very excited about this actually getting done.

Am I the only one who would have put a set of stairs to cut off the long "u" portion of the path? It's great to be accessible, but not everyone is going to want to walk that windy path everytime if they're commuting to work from O4W park to wherever else.

I think they could have put stairs inside the "u" portion in addition to the slope, but I do think it is important to have the trail accessible to both bikes and wheelchairs, etc, with the sloped part.

I totally agree on this. I don't the path is very convenient. Something like this, in Piedmont Park, would have been perfect:

Yes. Those of us with mobility challenges would be eliminated by a steep set of stairs.
