What are the different ways we remember? How can heritage create connections between people and our city's collective memory?
The Edmonton Heritage Council (EHC) and Edmonton & District Historical Society (EDHS) will bring together experts and enthusiasts to explore these questions at a community symposium, City and Memory.
The event will be held November 1 & 2, 2013 at the Sutton Place Hotel (10235 - 101 Street NW).
The keynote speaker at the Friday evening reception will be third-generation Edmontonian and playwright-actor-director-instructor Ken Brown, creator of Life After Hockey, Letters from Wartime, Spiral Dive, and Anatolia Speaks.
Symposium panels and presentation on Saturday will feature 25 writers, community leaders, heritage professionals, entrepreneurs, and citizens keen to discuss various aspects of the city's heritage.
Confirmed speakers include accomplished local authors Jessica Kluthe, Diana Davidson, and Jennifer Delisle, as well as historian Kathryn Merrett, architect Gene Dub, and CEO of CKUA Radio, Ken Regan.

The EHC and EDHS are both mandated to preserve and promote the history of Edmonton. This symposium will continue their work to make connections between experts and enthusiasts, and spark debate about the city's past, present, and future. It will be a terrific opportunity to engage in important conversations about the city's stories, network, meet potential project partners, and contribute to Edmonton's heritage community.
