There isn't really anything bad with it, it would be a fairly busy line. it's just the conditions around it that are getting people angry, and the way it has been proposed. Up until august it was a fully funded LRT line that would replace the Scarborough RT, but in August the Province said that if council wanted to they could make it a subway. Ford wanted a subway because "Scarborough deserves it" (the same reasons he supports a finch and sheppard subway, which are extremely useless and can barely support LRT yet alone subways), and not for actual reason such as eliminating a transfer, a much quicker ride in (as you wouldn't have a transfer), making the Sheppard LRT make more sense, and the fact that it has more than enough ridership to be justified. I think the thing that is pissing people off is that $85 million had already been sunk into the LRT line, and it was a plan that had been supported for nearly 4 years, and it was suddenly cancelled. There was a much cheaper plan, already in place, and it got cancelled for something much different and delayed the opening by 3 years. If the Subway had been the solution from the beginning, nobody would have cared.

I see.
There's also debate in Montreal about the extension of the Blue Line to Anjou (5 stations). Many say the Pie-IX BRT, scheduled for 2018, could serve the area in a much cheaper way, but nothing beats the Metro. Only thing is, adding more users to the Blue Line would mean the Orange Line being more overcrowded than it already is during rush hour. This project should cost about $1,5 billion...

A first step, the first of about 2.6 trillion.

I remember how Bernard Landry would re-announce blue line extensions, trying to claim credit (of course it wouldn't ever go forward, but press conferences....) for things that had already been announced before...and never executed. bits of red rag too.

Here is the next Future Toronto Render I made, with a few slight revisions from the last one, and lots of extra towers added. (Or finished off.) On this one the new towers are: One Bloor, Ice East & West, Harbour Plaza East & West, L Tower, Ernst & Young Tower, Casa II, U Condos I & II, 1 York, Karma, FIVE, Southcore Delta Hotel, Theatre Park, RCMI, Waterpark Place 3, Bisha Hotel, Southcore Bremner, Pinnacle on Adelaide, The Bond, Alto, Studio on Richmond, Quartz, Aura, X2, Chaz on Charles, Pace, Peter Street Condos, Picasso, Tableau, The Madison East & West, Spectra, Backstage, King Charlotte, The Mercer, The Yorkville Residences and 1000 Bay.
I also added these proposals that will be U/C soon or have a good chance of being built: Holt Renfrew Tower, 37 Yorkville A & B, 10 York, The Icon, 88 Scott, Casa 3 and E Condos South.

Amazing render koops!. You can see in that render the Entertainment District is going to have amazing density. The towers are smaller than the financial district, but they are closer together and its a lot more interesting at street level than the bank towers.

I've been following the larger developments amongst the existing bank towers, and what's being proposed in and around Young Street. The core's smaller proposals are so numerous that I haven't paid as much attention (shame on me!)

How many projects is the entertainment district getting?

Thank you, koops65. This rendering is very well done! These are exciting times for Toronto's core.

I'm tempted to hire you to do a future rendering of downtown Halifax.

There are 10 towers U/C right now that are 100+ meters. At least another 12 over 100 meters are proposed.

Good God look at that wall that is Harbour Plaza and the slab office building.

Good bye CBD, a new Harbour Square is being plunked in front of it! /puke

I wouldn't go as far as vomit inducing, but there's a very slim chance that it will be as good as the old CBD. The level of sophistication has taken a noticeable drop over the last 3 decades.

IM Pei, Mies van der Rohe vs. KPMB, aA? It's like comparing a Maserati to an Audi. We're counting on you Gehry and Fosters to come save us.

While much of the CBD will be walled off by those new towers, they're certainly not shabby looking towers based on the HQ renders. We'll also finally get the Maple Leaf Square towers (easily the worst glass towers in downtown Toronto) hidden behind those sleek white Harbour Square highrises.

The added density in the Entertainment District (will improve the vibe on Queen & King West to an even higher level than what already exists) and the Oxford/East Bayfront proposals are what excite me the most, if these alone get completed in the next 10 years then Toronto will have truly a mature and complete downtown core. Though realistically, we'll probably have dozens more project proposals and streetscaping/waterfront-revitalization/infrastructure starting construction during that time!!!!

Let's keep our fingers crossed that they are sleek.

Have to say I always look forward to viewing your future skyline renderings. It puts things into perspective and to consider that there are another ~ 120 other proposals on top of this! It's to be seen if we'll see them built, but it will be quite something if it all pans out.

I hope more Torontonians advocate for a greater variety of building materials (or, at least glass colour) to avoid the cityscape from becoming too monotonous...
