Is the plan still to build two low rise office buildings, one mid rise hotel and a parkade?
Yes that is still the plan.

What an amazing coincidence that the City all of a sudden decided to reroute phase 2 of rapid transit through the area shown in orange. How fortunate for Shindico! Lucky them!

GEM Equities owns that land. And no, it isn't a coincidence. As much as Shindico gets a bad wrap, and deservedly so, one of the main factors for that routing was TOD. Been public for a long time. Second thing was less grade crossings and a higher speed for the BRT. Shindico wants to build some type of pedestrian overpass to get their residents/tenants from the north side of the tracks to the BRT on the south side.

Not backing Shindico by any means! But that route really is the best option from a technical aspect of RT.

For whom is this option better? The current non-existent buildings in the Parker land? I still think an intensification of Pembina and running the line along there is a better option. Mostly because it is not predicated on projections. I mean look at all the development happening from GEM at the Fort Rouge Yards development... It's only been a year and a half since opening.

If GEM can't even get their act together to develop beside the current Rapid Tranist, why would they develop this area?

I mean it's better for Rapid Transit, engineering and operational wise.

Running down the CN right of way from Jubilee to Plaza isn't ideal. Really. 60 km/h speeds with intersections every 100m. Yeah, they would have transit priority gates. But might as well just continue bus service in the diamond lane on Pembina. Like they're going to do. Then you're right on Pembina and you can still intensify development all you want.

Having a dedicated right of way with minimal crossings at 80 km/h is much better. It's not just about serving that one stretch of Pembina. It's about moving people from downtown to the university the fastest way possible. Eventually moving people from Transcona, north Main, St. James, and the airport to the University.

The TOD thing is kind of a farce, yes I agree. I'm looking solely from the engineering side of things. Is the proposed route longer, yes. If the city was realistic about running this down the Letellier the whole way, they should do it overhead. Might as well do it overhead down the median of Pembina. Expensive, yes.

IMO.

Looks like scaffolding is going up on the northeast corner of City Place... could mean that the previous renderings showing windows be coming to fruition?

I wouldn't say it is the best route for technical aspects at all. It is the cheapest and easiest option which is why it was chosen. Don't think there is a big conspiracy about it either to the other poster with regards to Shindico.

The City of Winnipeg planning department has no vision whatsoever. It may cost more, but running an underground tunnel from Windermere (close off Byng), to just south of McGillivary would be the best option, IMO. Look at what Calgary has done in multiple areas with the LRT system. Just built it underground, or above ground (whatever is more cost effective).

Plus technically, all we'd need is the shallow cut method - dig it out, place the concrete slabs in, throw dirt back onto it, and voila! Underground RT.

Well no doubt it's not the best option. The best option would be a multiple subway lines from one of the city to the other. But that will never happen. If I had to choose between the two options that were available, I'd choose the route the City went with.

No big conspiracy, just a very happy coincidence that a couple years after the Parker land swap, the city opted to reroute phase 2 of rapid transit through the Parker lands. Which is of course immediately adjacent to Shindico's Grant Park thing.

No doubt this route is cheaper and easier, but it is also an opportunity lost in terms of building up Pembina Highway as a dense urban node. It will take decades to realize the TOD benefits that the amended route offers. But then BRT itself is a halfassed approach to rapid transit, so why would the route selection be any different?

Info and renderings of the cityplace interior upgrades were released to building tenants yesterday but didn't show anything exterior.

Main upgrades include:

replacing the two escalators
replacing the flooring in the common areas
building single-occupant washrooms on the main and second floors to accommodate people with various needs
upgrading the lighting and ceiling system
replacing existing column tiles
painting and enhancing way finding signage

Except all the structural and drainage work that would be needed due to our "dirt" being unstable lake bottom clay.

"new multi-family residential" adjacent to the CN mainline??

Unless they do a lot of soundproofing and vibration-proofing, I can see an uproar in a few years "that train track has Got to go. I can't sleep at night. bla bla bla"

I also believe CentreVenture has fully moved over (unless this was stated already)... I walked by their offices in the McDonald Shoes building and it's all clear.

I wonder if they have a new tenant for that location. They did quite a bit of work there, and it's really nice on the inside.

windows are there, should be similar to shark club windows...unless they changed it in the last couple of weeks.
