I think that was the point of his post. You can't see the capitol dome from the roof of the Embassy Suites garage, but since you can see the capitol dome from the roof of the Embassy Suites hotel (which the casual photographer is not allowed to access), you might also be able to see it from the top floor of the Hyatt's garage, which anyone should be able to access.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately, you cannot see the capitol dome from the Hyatt's garage.

As you can see from the below photo, the Embassy Suites is a little bit further to the east than the Hyatt's garage.

Ah, well that's a bummer. It would have been a nice view of it. I do still like that angle looking down Congress. I like the different mix of buildings.

Too bad we don't have control of the camera direction and zoom. I'd almost pay $2 a month for the ability to do that.

I must not be very good at this. I watched that "trailer" earlier today and I missed Austin. Obvious when you point it out.

I have an extremely odd work schedule. I work 14 hours a day for three or four days in a row then have three or four days off.

So I posted this video on the "South Austin Memories" Facebook group. It was filmed in Austin sometime in the early 80s. Anyway, the guy who played the sheik in the video, Tito Menchaca, was/is an Austin actor. Anyway, I posted the video there and he actually replied to it.

Here's the group.

That video was pretty common on the 80's MTV. I had pretty much just moved here when it first came out...I got a kick out of it because now the whole world could see what I saw 24 / 7 with the F4's landing at Berstrom AFB. The glimpse inside the City Collosium is pretty cool. That's a venue I can thankfully say I experienced. I just missed the AWH. It was pretty awesome when Austin got any type of tv time, now its pretty common.

Yeah, I can remember going to the City Coliseum with my mom when I was little. She shows poodles at dog shows, and back then that's where they had the dog shows. I remember the building being cold and leaky even back in the mid 80s. The last memory I have of it was that I had jury dudy there in 1999. I remember standing outside of it that day looking over at downtown and seeing the cranes for 300 West Sixth, the Intel Buildings, and the CSC Buildings.

I also remember the Palmer Auditorium well. My mom and grandma would always go to the Sami Show there. My dad was also into collecting bottles and other antiques, and we'd go there whenever they had the Austin Bottle Club show there.

I saw several concerts at the City Coliseum. But I can't remember who I saw at this point. I did see Guns n Roses at Palmer when they were an unknown back up band for The Cult. Hardly anybody was there. I got there late and was able to walk right up to the stage after the concert started.

Jealous! I was born too late to get to enjoy Stevie's music while he was still alive. I have visited his grave in Dallas, saw the house he grew up in in Dallas, and even visited his old high school there.
