I get a bit of a kick out of these debates over parkland or forest. In Halifax's case the municipality is about 90% woods. The city has many problems, but a lack of undeveloped wooded areas is not one of them. Here in Vancouver we're surrounded by forests and mountains. The tree debate I guess is more relevant in Prairie cities or in Ontario where there's a lot of farmland, but it's kind of silly in a lot of other parts of the country.
The Maritimes have so many trees that people there more commonly boast about how
little forest there is and how much farmland there is in a given part of the region. I remember visiting Southern Ontario for the first time and thinking I had arrived in "big sky country".
