It looks like the former proposed DA building was 6 stories with some mechanical above that and the steep roof design. While it doesn't look nearly as tall as the Boyer 101 building maybe the roof brought it to 100'.

So, I'm hoping we won't have to worry about something short and boxy, just something tall and boring instead. UT Planner, if the county requests a zone change please let us know, I'm sure many of us on here would be interested in attending that Commission or Council meeting to show our support for leaving the zoning as D-1.

I know there were some costly limitations because of the overhead power lines on the original site. From a constructability standpoint. In addition to large amounts of undocumented fill that had to be removed from the site. Perhaps the new site really does provide for flexibility in the design.

I am in doubt of the La Porte project getting much done this winter. I heard a report that we will be getting more rain and snow this winter than the past few years, since the waters in the Pacific Ocean are warmer. I just remember some of the excuses they had last year complaining about the weather not being very good. If lots of snow does happen as predicted this wont rise more than a level or 2 before next spring.

Though I think that UtPlanner did tell us a couple of times that they had had some very legitimate problems with subterranean issues. I had the impression that they were issues that would have been difficult for anyone to deal with. Perhaps, UtPlanner will indulge us again with a little summary.

This pisses me off, so many developers have such a lack of vision on how to incorporate old buildings into new developments. Image how cool that development would be if it was fully integrated into the Redman Building it would definitely be a more interesting and I think it would provide a more cohesive neighborhood, with both old and new together.

Future Mayor or UtPlanner, do either of you have information about who this developer is? I would like to write to them letting them know that I hope that they would incorporate the Redman Building into their design.

It was definitely a unique design, especially for something as serious as DA's offices. It will be interesting to see what the new proposal will look like.

At first I thought the design was kind of cool, but the more I look at it the more I dislike it. I now think it's especially inappropriate for it's purpose. I imagine that part of the reason for shooting it down was not only it's high cost, but too many influential attorneys and politicians disliked the design. That said, I agree with those that are hoping that we not only get a good piece of infill, but something designed with a placemaking flair.

I'm anticipating something as bold and daring as the 101 project. Only less so.

I like it and still do. We complain that there is no bold architecture in salt lake and when a design is bold we shy away. When then would a structure like this be appropriate? I would rather see something different than another mildly inspire box.I hope that the next design is only as interpid as this.

I also like the design. Though I'm usually skeptical (or, critical) of Gehry-esque design, this seems to be bold and post modern while still engaging the street traditionally. It's the best of both worlds.

I'll be interested to see what we end up getting.

I like it. I've always liked it (and was one building I really was looking forward to considering most of the stuff going up in SLC bores me). I think it's a nice balance between extremely bold and semi-conservative.

I sense some will now dislike it as a defense mechanism over the fact it's not being built anymore - you know, trying to talk themselves into not liking it because it won't be going up (I've done that).

I'm sure we'll get something far less interesting or memorable. I'm convinced we'll get a box, with some glass, little height ... and nothing else.

Oh well.

There's a point in which a building looks like it's trying too hard to be unique.

I liked it also. Shame that we will most likely have to settle with a four story box. Hope the new design will be somewhat unique and no shorter then 5-stories.

Lou Rovo Brain Health Center in Las Vegas is trying too hard (in MY opinion) but hells, its recognized and has made its mark. I don't think Salt Lake City is ready for anything like that but the DAs Design was not even close compared to other structures I have see.
