Lol let's specify. Criminal activities north of the track, west of the river! Jk..

But yeah, that's a nice re-development of a dilapidated strip mall. Should fit in nicely with the neighbourhood since there's already retail and midrise nearby.

Not yet and I think that the zoning variance has expired as well as they are usually only good for two years.

Been wondering about that one myself, they reduced the height by quite a bit, TV should know more as his parents old house was near the site, since they sold it looks like it's all clear to build on the Edgewood Estates site again.

Apartment space and availability are really limited in NK so the sooner they start the better.

In what is likely a surprise to no one, according to the Free Press today Lakeview has again cancelled their plans to developer their surface lot by the Convention Center into a hotel.

They also talk about the Carlton Inn property and how it lost its hotel and that SoPo is still in talks with a hotel. Could it be the group that had looked at Carlton Inn have moved their project to SoPo instead?

Nice to finally hear Lakeview admit (after decades now) they won't be building a hotel on the property next to the Convention Centre. I guess it's free publicity but let's give the spotlight to actual projects in the works.

Hope SoPo gets going soon.

I think the hotel pulled out and now CentreVenture & Cenvention Centre might try and tie SoPo with the Convention Centre Hotel.

From what I understand they are still two distinct projects. Both are moving along.

Hopefully Lakeview can develop their property into something interesting. Those pieces have sat vacant for too long. I was tired of hearing about their "proposed hotel".

Oops I meant it in a hypothetical sense, not a they're actually doing it. Convention Centre has to build a hotel and seeing as Longboat plans on building one as part of SoPo, merging the projects would save Convention Centre and CentreVenture.

I'd love to see both properties have hotels and connect them with a Skywalk.

Everyone's also forgetting about One Portage and Main. That's another 180+ rooms in a 28 story high-rise. Or, is that also cancelled? I know the same developers are in a lawsuit right now with Edgewater on Wellington.

People have been slowly working on that place for about a year, but it sure has stepped up lately. Any idea what the plan for it is?

It's funny that Lakeview is backing out due to too much competition given that they were seriously pursuing a hotel project probably since before any of the other players even thought about their projects. I swear the Lakeview hotel project was one of the first construction rumours I must have read here when I first joined this forum.

That said, there is a fair bit of hotel development around downtown now. Here's a list:

Under construction:
-Alt Hotel
-Mere Hotel

Planned/preliminary work:
-"Project W"

Proposed:
-SoPo Hotel
-Convention Centre Hotel

You'd probably have to go back 40 years to the last time there were 5 hotels on the go downtown all at once. But with the Sheraton and PLR hotels being converted to apartments, there really won't be a huge net gain in the number of rooms downtown... probably just a small, marginal increase. At least there will be more up-to-date hotel options downtown, though... some of the hotels are getting quite stale in appearance.

This is amazing news, turns out that Manitoba did not lose the Canalta Hotel planned for Parcel 4 at the Forks after all. It was announced on Shindico's Twitter account today they are going to build the hotel and "water park" in Selkirk Crossing North now.

also, this project by Pike is apparently an active proposal.. can anyone figure out where it is for sure? my best guess is still where phase 2 of H20 was to be... but I thought they had the foundation poured for it already?

I walk by there weekly when I catch the 47 to Chateau Lanes on Narin. Yep, the foundation is poured for it and the whole site seems completely deserted.

That building will be an absolute godsend for that strip. Main Street Selkirk looks like the main drag of any other tidy, prosperous small southern Manitoba city...until you hit Manitoba Avenue. Then it gets drab, forlorn and depressing. This building obviously won't change all that on its own, but it sure will provide the area with a shot in the arm.

Beautiful. From an urbanism standpoint, that would be one of the best new projects downtown... all that glass is great, as it will cast light on the street and create a sense of activity that you don't get from the other Waterfront Buildings. But can they actually find tenants for the ground floor CRUs they appear to have included in the design? The other developers have had a hard time finding occupants for their projects.

Pity if it won't happen because of H20.

If we use this "site plan" for h2o

from https://www.facebook.com/H2OWaterfrontDrive

the phase 2 building/Pike's proposal look like they are in the exact same spot, with those two smaller buildings added on the side fronting Waterfront. Whoever runs the Pike Facebook account did confirm to me it was an active project so I guess we'll see.
