Not sure if this (Detailed designs for the new Lansdowne) is what you are referring to, but we've seen these drawings, but I don't think we've seen interiors like THF.

- I know the Edmonton Oilers say they have lots of irons in the fire about a name for the new rink, but I’d be shocked if it’s not named Rogers Centre or Rogers Palace with all the money Rogers Communications just laid on the Oilers for promotional stuff. I also hear the company might like a sports talk radio station in Edmonton.

Considering that Toronto's stadium and Vancouver's arena are both named after Rogers, I hope that Edmonton's new rink gets a more distinctive name.

The thing is with so many new stadiums and arena opening soon there really is not a ton of companys willing or can't spend that type of money just look at Landsdown Park there some who think they could get $50-100 million how many could afford that maybe Bell or Rogers take Edmonton they should be able to get $30-40 million then you have Quebec City.

Doesn't QC have Pepsi?

Edmonton could get any number of companies, think energy. Suncor, Cenovus, Encana, Enbridge, etc...

None of these companies have a major consumer facing presence (with the exception of Suncor's Petro Canada retail brand), so it's rather unlikely that they would shell out for that type of advertising. They are better served by spending marketing budget on events that are targeted towards their clients.

The question is are they willing to spend that tyoe of cash for many company they don't want to spend massive money on things like this.

I hear you. I'm just saying it's possible. Look at TD Garden in Boston, Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Xcel Energy Centre in Saint Paul, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Telus get their name on an arena soon. They were outbid by Rogers in Vancouver and got the rug pulled out from under them with BC Place. If they're still in the market, I think Edmonton would be a good get for them.

Funny how you don't hear much about that. I'm sure the Ottawa ownership is on the ball but it is surprising some of the the things that have yet to transpire.

No skirting of safety on Pan Am build

Published allegations that the consortium building Hamilton’s Pan Am Stadium is skirting safety regulations are being dismissed by a city Councillor.

Councillor Lloyd Ferguson chairs the Pan Am committee and has extensive background in construction and he sees nothing wrong with the way construction is going along.

A Burlington electrical contractor says costs are being cut by using general labourers for electrical installation work and banning unionized subcontractors.

Ferguson says the complainant went to the media, but didn’t contact the provincial agencies overseeing construction which is the usual procedure for this kind of grievance.

He says construction is on budget and has fallen about two weeks behind, but says they are now working six days a week and will be caught up in no time.

Yep, one of many "delays" that we will see due to "unforseen circumstances" like a winter blizzard over the next several months. Just over 8 months until the exhibition games begin and Tim Hortons Field is nothing more than a steel frame at this point.

I just can't see this stadium being completed in that timeframe. Too much can and probably will go wrong. Late summer/early fall of 2014 would be my bet for earliest possible opening.

On the surface, sure, but the Oilers just signed a multi-year (apparently around 15 years) partnership with Rogers for the entire Oilers / Oil Kings brand. They're not gonna go sell the major marketing opportunity to Rogers' biggest rival a year later.

Do you know offhand if the Eskimos - Riders pre-season game next year or the year after? I can't remember and I'm too lazy to look... Just curious about timelines and such.
