does anyone know what is going on with 333 Woodland Drive aka the new Canada Post Vancouver distro?

I take it they are just reno-ing the block full of buildings they bought? I thought it would be a new build but we should have seen something by now?

this video posted by a Postal Union rep seems to indicate it will stay the same (ie just a mild reno) >>

and a small mention here as well >> http://www.vancourier.com/news/future-un...ers-at-downtown-vancouver-plant-1.376884

also in the same hood ... kitty korner to the Waldorf ... Boheme seems to have sold well and is going to start construction soon. I didn't even know it was on sale yet!

http://bohemeliving.com/

We would like to congratulate the purchasers of Boheme on their fabulous choice of building and location!
The vibrant Commercial Drive neighbourhood,in the heart of the Grandview-Woodland community, offers a whole host of amenities and shops with a truly one of a kind atmosphere.

Construction will be starting soon!!
And our sales centre will be open in its new location in the FALL!!

Who would spend that much time to film an old building and imply they are going to work in an old run down building? Union dues hard at work.

Fact: It's getting remediated and torn down.

hahaha no doubt BC union organizers hard at work

thanks for the info ... still have not seen a render or even a architect mentioned .... Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership would be my pick for a project like this looking at what they have done in the past. DGBK Vancouver would be my 2nd pick.

Hmm. Sounds like MHPM is involved with Canada Post as project manager on a bunch of the letter carrier depots.

I noticed that one of the old lowrise buildings on Commercial, where the street diverts to join with Victoria, has been demolished. As this is right next door to some new midrise apartments I suppose that is what is in store there too?

Well I can see this going off well.

(a) York Theatre - 639 Commercial Drive - Naming Rights and Signage
VHR C (M) (H)

Renovations are nearing completion at the York Theatre at 639 Commercial Drive. The theatre was built in a residential area of Grandview-Woodland in 1913 and was in operation until 2000. In 2011 the site was rezoned to CD-1 to allow rehabilitation of the theatre and included the heritage designation of the site and a Heritage Revitalization Agreement (HRA).
Once renovations are complete, ownership will be transferred to the City which will enter into a 60-year lease with the Vancouver East Cultural Centre (VECC) who will operate the theatre.
The VECC has applied under the City of Vancouver Naming Rights Policy to name the theatre’s auditorium the “York Theatre West Coast Reduction Stage” in honour of the corporate sponsor. The stage name will be displayed on the proposed fascia and canopy signs on the front façade of the building. The Naming Rights Policy directs staff to seek the advice of the
Heritage Commission for a naming request associated with a heritage building.
The proposed signage includes:
One fascia sign on the parapet identifying the theatre and the corporate sponsor (note: this part of the building is newly constructed);
Two canopy signs over the main entrance, with digital text providing information about upcoming performances as well as the name of the corporate sponsor; and  A vertical projecting sign identifying the theatre (no reference to corporate sponsor),
which is part of the Art Deco entrance façade dating from 1939 that has been replicated as part of the building rehabilitation.
Before a sign permit can be issued, amendments to the Sign By-law will be required to allow:
 The signage to include the name of the corporate sponsor (no corporate logos will be permitted);
 The height and size of the fascia sign;
 More than one canopy sign on the frontage; and
 The use of automatic changeable copy on the canopy signs.
Staff will report to Council with recommended Sign By-law amendments.
Measures are proposed to reduce impacts on nearby residents, including restricting the hours of illumination of the signage (the fascia and canopy signs must be turned off at 11 pm) and reducing the brightness of the LED text on the canopy signs at dusk. No flashing images/text will be permitted on the canopy signs.

I understand the need to bring in money, but that name is, uh, unappealing. That said, West Coast Reduction has been a big supporter of The Cultch for years.

I think it's apartment buildings. I'll take a note of the development permit number and confirm this weekend. There are some really nice new and newish townhouses in that area. I've been looking. Commercial Street looks ripe for new development.

Great location. Close to Trout Lake, 10 mins walk to Broadway skytrain, 15 min walk (or quick bus ride) to heart of the drive. 10 min walk to Kingsway and shops like Famous Foods.
