Except in most infill neighbourhoods, they're way below peak population so while two homes are replacing one, there is still a long way to go before they reach populations that put a huge strain on community infrastructure. The exception is sewer in some isolated locations - so that'll need to be addressed. I do think some redevelopment levy is warranted, but it's not so simple to figure out what's equitable.

I know a developer who has been looking at building a small multifamily project on Mission road, and has run into this situation. Sewage would need to be upgraded, and there is a proposed cost to the developer....not sure what the actual figure is, but high enough that the project probably won't go ahead. Hopefully something fair can be worked out, as both sides have a point.

Unfortunately, Richard Wilkie won't be attending either debate. Richard Wilkie lives outside ward 9, seems to have a lot of money behind him and many signs have been placed in public spaces. His website also points out he seems to think bike lanes are a waste of money. Though in places like 8 Ave NE which is just in the process of creating a new bike lane, that had been championed by the Renfrew community association nearly every sign on the street is for Carra. A lot of local businesses like Bridgeland Market and Luke's Drug Mart have signs up supporting him. And they should, Carra has been a big champion of creating less restrictive parking on high streets.

I plan to be voting for Carra for the next election and hope his next term he is as or more proactive about engaging communities.

That project is going through after all. But there is a capacity constraint on that trunk that will need to be addresed. When I was saying isolated locations that was the one I was thinking of most.

True, especially north central is jammed with buses and will need to convert to LRT asap. Crowding on LRT will hopefully be alleviated soon with new LRV purchases and 4 car at rush hour (to start).

That may be true, but political (SE LRT) and operational (8th Ave) issues will dictate otherwise and austerity may well see nothing but an economical at-grade only SE LRT built in the foreseeable future.

It's all moot unless the City gets a long-predictable funding deal from the Province (and Federal participation). Priority #1 in the next year as our charter discussions march ahead.

From what I saw on the news there was a guy who claimed to have predicted the flood and no one listened to him lol, and there was some religious nut who thinks God is going to punish Calgary for supporting a Muslim Mayor lol.

I'm sure he's thinking that the floods were just the beginning of that punishment, conveniently forgetting that it thrust Nenshi into a role that solidified his popularity. Not that you would expect an argument like that to be rational in the first place.

It is entertaining to see some of the... different... characters that emerge during an election. And forums like this (rightfully so) are designed to give every candidate an equal platform to speak from, but it is interesting to see how some choose to use it.

Considering the number of wars and people dead while these 3 religions fight about who is "right" I would say that is a long shot at best. Hell, look at the amount of fighting between different Christian and Muslim sects... The divisive nature of religion is one of the major reasons I'm an atheist, that and I gave up on fairy tales and superstitions a long time ago lol.

I'd say that's a good thing, now people can try and find out why a conservative think tank needs to be involved in munucipal politics, assuming he answers honestly and doesn't avoid certain questions.

I hear you. I don't need the fear of hell or the promise of eternal salvation to live a good life and treat others right. There are times that I wish there was such a thing as God as I'd love to see those who kill in his name get their just rewards.
