Remember all the cheerleaders for that thing? That's even scarier.

Speaking of dodging bullets, is the Mayfair north site moving at all?

I hope Procura decided to sell Mayfair north site to another developer that knows what should be built on that site.

True...I guess it shows how desperate we were to see more development downtown. My have things changed in just 7 years. Good thing Council torpedoed that proposal along with the Superstore.

Reading reviews of the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn being used for an Islanders pre-season game (and starting in 2015(?) regular season games)... and wow, I hope we don't have the same issues at our new arena. It sounds like some seats from behind the net, you can't even see the net... :0

(granted, the Bayclays Centre was designed for basketball... but still!)

^ There's not a snowball's chance in hell that those issues are seen here. Our is hockey first, any other sports second. Barclay's has the same issues that the old arena in Phoenix had for hockey too before they got into their new barn.

As for the Superstore plans... lets call that the "Kerry Diotte Arena District"

The Mayor's final thoughts on the arena...

Last week, City Council approved the CRL, which is going to be the means to provide for thirteen catalyst projects for the revitalization of downtown including the arena, Jasper Avenue reconstruction, storm sewers, streetscape improvements and a park. See the full list of projects.

Together with new, planned and existing facilities, this area will begin to reflect a renewed and unified sense of our character and spirit. The growth of our downtown through the CRL is tied to advancing the arena project. The CRL will act as a bridge to build these much needed projects, meaning that traditional capital allocation of these dollars can be used in other parts of the City.

I believe it is crucial to place this project in the context of an overall sense of pride we have been building in this city over the past nine years. For so many years we felt that what we had was good enough, no matter how unremarkable, how deteriorating, how insufficient. No longer. Edmonton is an amazing place, a place we have chosen to live, work and raise our families. It is worthy of our care and investment. That is what the arena project has been about.

The redevelopment of the downtown is an investment in our people and future generations. It will be – and already is – a catalyst for revitalization and rejuvenation in the downtown core. There is energy building, an energy that I feel when I talk to people, when I visit events around the city, and when I hear about the things people are working on. I am excited to see what the future brings and how our city will grow and change as this project, and so many others, move forward.

I had a VERY interesting walkabout with some development folks today. Could be some substantial spin-off projects coming soon

Sounds like a former bearish attitude is changing. One particular big player is looking at going on a bit of a shopping spree

It is exciting. Man I HATE that parking lot. I've parked there a few times over the past few weeks and its just horrendous. There are suspect characters hanging out in the bushes, garbage and disgarded shopping carts shrewn about.

http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2013/10...on-oilers-arena-could-sport-rogers-name/

- I know the Edmonton Oilers say they have lots of irons in the fire about a name for the new rink, but I’d be shocked if it’s not named Rogers Centre or Rogers Palace with all the money Rogers Communications just laid on the Oilers for promotional stuff. I also hear the company might like a sports talk radio station in Edmonton.

Interesting. — TSN 1260. I went from listening to 1260 just about all day at the office, to maybe an hour in the morning.

I like the morning guys

Lowtide is rarely any good. I used to only listen to it cause Spector was up Next.

I listened to Spector religiously. Now he's gone....

I used to listen to the first hour or two of Gregor right after Spector. Usually changed when he started talking about lacrose or soccer.

It's going downhill. Atleast TSN has kept it all local programing. TSN ottawa is mostly just Toronto stuff. I guess thats what happens when your sport scene —.

The second TSN brings in a national toronto based program during the day I will never listen to it again.

Agree...Spector was really good to listen to. Better than The cheese burglar over on CHED.

TSN no doubt down the line will water this station down with the Evil presents of the East influence!!

Edmonton arena developers preferred contractor for city office space

By Ryan Tumilty

While the city has officially suspended the process to find 350,000 square feet of office space, city administrators were recommending in July an agreement be negotiated with the developers of the downtown arena.

Instead of starting those negotiations however, city councillors asked for more information and voted to postpone the process until after the election.

The revelation comes in copies of a private report provided exclusively to Metro.

In an in camera session in July, council was presented with a report suggesting the city should start negotiations with the EAD Development partnership, which is developing the area around the arena.

After reviewing 14 requests for the new space, the report concluded the proposal for a new office tower on the corner of 101 Street and 104 Avenue, the current Staples store, was the clear winner.
