Was this already posted in here? Pause at 1:22 for a good idea how everything will fit into the area.

Interesting video. Good to know we'll all be driving Teslas in the future.

The hype machine is in overdrive for this "community announcement" that is a mix of projects already for sale, and those not yet approved by council. Maybe it's a drive for PR to pressure the CoV to approve? I don't know... seems half baked to me. I doubt they will let Concord move the social housing site, and I feel the casino/hotel project will get approval in some form, but it won't look like that video.

One thing the video makes clear (at 0:22) is that the view of BC Place as you drive over Cambie Bridge will be completely blocked. That huge cluster of short, fat buildings (necessitated by the city's artificial height restrictions) will block even the smallest glimpse of BC Place. You won't even know it exists.

When the Plaza of Nations gets developed with those two large buildings connected by that massive skybridge, the last choice view of BC Place will disappear forever:

What's going on with the old post office building and it's heritage status? If it's sticking around are they gonna look for big box retailers like target or Walmart?

BWAHAHAHA!
I LOL'd for 5 minutes! That video is such a perfect example of fluffy advertising! Beautiful Rich People! Living The Dream! Shopping! Yoga! Tesla! Coffee! Did you see the "model" Lululemon girl catwalk Vogue-Walking in the park! LOL

Does anybody think they are going to live this superficial life because of the shallow promos like this?

Does anyone think that showing stoners eating cheetos and playing x-box in a 500sf bachelor is going to make condos move?

They are selling an aspirational lifestyle and if you think they don't know what they're doing you just need to look at the numbers during any given presale to see that it works.

People ARE already living this lifestyle. And more people want in but many can't because they can't afford it.

Yes, I get that people want to see beautiful people living an idealised and aspirational life. I get that.

What I found funny was how exaggerated the whole thing is in this video. Like really, a yoga student doing a model walk in a park? 3 girls decked-out in high-fashion eveningwear and caked with makeup, strutting the pavements in the middle of the day? It wasn't a representation of an idealised life, it was hyper-(sur)real and way over-done.

As an added note, I think showing these "skinny beautiful white people"-type campaigns that are legion in condo advertising, could actually deter "average" buyers. By average, I mean people who are more representative of the population. Consider that good/bad as you wish.

Is this the first ad you've ever seen? Like not even real estate, but ever?

I can't think of a promotion that doesn't do that. I agree that it can seem silly if you disect it, but it's what works.

I work in advertising, so yes, I've seen ads.

If so, then could you work on some reality adverts for these projects? Kind of like reality TV, but advertising mankind's underbelly to sell condos. The stoners and cheetos sounds like a goldmine of possibilities.

(sorry, it's Friday. need to get out of the office soon.)

there's also the fact that this tower cluster is at the intersection of the cambie st bridge, bc place, the casino and a bunch of roads, with short walks (across lots of roads) to pretty much everything on the downtown peninsula. your demographic is pretty obvious there. as for the tower design, if there's somewhere downtown where that the telus boot would fit, it's on the site of that casino and/or the site of that box arch thing (i can't stand that fad, ugh). if planning had any sense, they'd propose that the bridge and ov southern views of the stadium be preserved by shifting these projects up in an L-shape, with no site FAR or height limits. win-win. no developer in the vancouver market would ever build a super tall so you'd likely get the same density, but you'd preserve the very hard-won views of amazing bc place.

also, this entire area from the creekside park all the way to the cmp-controlled lands (and including them) would be a great "village" area, like with narrow alleys and the like, a sort of granville island meets hutongs commercial/residential area built to ~6 stories, woodframed if you like. very high density (for vancouver) but with maximal view protection, 100 walkscore, perfect bridge from peninsula to main street/olympic village, and easy to redevelop in 40 years if it's obsolete then. the feeling that you have to have like 70% ultra low-rise + 4 towers is almost pathological at this point, destructive even.

Or LA-inspired tatooed/head-shaven gangster types with their short-skirted bling bling Snooky-like gals who want to be close to Granville Street (not just for the weekend) and the future Casino. Or the super wealthy Mercedes SUV-driving/LV bag-slinging Mainland Chinese buyers who snap up like 10 suites in a single buying, or the millionaire walker-assisted old white couple who just sold off their Point Grey house and need to "downsize"......

I'm sure ads showing the reality of suburbia Vancouver (plus surroundings) will sell well...

I get fancy-— sells, but the yoga girl walking was the funniest thing I've seen in weeks. That was the most artificial motion I have ever seen a person do!

OD will love this one .... looks like in that video they have gone one step more and shown the build out of the social housing units that are sites they donated to the city (circled in red)..... or maybe they will try to do another land swap for those sites as well?

video cap from 1:01

Exactly, my thoughts too. They can even link the buildings with a retail mall under the bridge or a multi storey skybridge across Cambie Bridge. That would be phenomenal (retail and F&B in the sky).

But I think we are well ahead of the times.

She could be an aspiring model living in Yaletown practising for a modelling audition. Lol.
