Yes, its true. My daughter works there - they'll be finished on Sept.22. Its her first experience with losing a job - sad for everyone involved.
Hopefully something will fill the spot quickly. I think a Wendy's would be perfect in that location (better price-point given the area).
Last year the Jungle Jim's in Quispamsis closed then re-opended under new management soon after. I don't know how they're doing now but hopefully it will succeed with new direction.

St. Hubert never seems to do well in an Anglophone market - It flopped in Toronto but seems to thrive in Moncton. I wonder how the store in Saint John is doing? The Valley location would make a great Starbucks.

And conversely, while Quebec is terra incognita for Swiss Chalet, it thrives in Moncton with two locations that are usually packed to the gunnels. Moncton is just a weird blended market where franchises from both Quebec and the ROC tend to do well........
Guess that means it's doing better than expected if it's being upgraded.
Between Swiss Chalet and St Hubert, I think I marginally prefer Swiss Chalet a bit more; mainly because of the fries and the rolls. Still, having the Free Movie Ticket deal does lure me out to St Hubert more often.
Freddy's store, Swiss Chalet is still doing better, but it seems to be doing OK I think.

The Saint John Board of Trade has asked its members what they think about Sunday shopping--and they've spoken loud and clear.
81.5% of the Board of Trade members surveyed said they'd support store owners being able to choose their own hours on Sundays. 1.3% were undecided.
The overwhelming support numbers means the Board of Trade will ask Common Council to amend the Sunday Shopping by-law. There had been some discussion of only afternoon hours on Sundays, but the response to a second survey question confirmed the Board of Trade members want full flexibility, including the morning.
Common council appears to be warming somewhat to the idea of letting businesses set their own Sunday Shopping Hours.
Mayor Mel Norton tells CHSJ News he approves of the decision to look into the by-law change, since local retailers are struggling in some parts of the city and need to be able to stay competitive.
Common councillor Shirley McAlary says she initially worried about workers and that hasn't changed--however, since the last meeting she's heard from retail workers who say they could use the extra hours where they can get them. Further, she says, businesses should be trusted to make the decisions best for them.
The City Mananger has been asked to look into the by-law change which would take a minimum of weeks to go through the legal department have a second and third reading.

SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Extended Sunday shopping hours in Saint John is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Common council has passed a motion to have the city manager look into amending the corresponding by-law, to allow retailers to choose when they open for business on Sundays.
Mayor Mel Norton feels that the city needs to provide Saint John’s business community with the tools they need to be as competitive as possible.
“We are a relatively small community. We have to compete not just against the region but, in fact, well beyond this region and we need every tool available to our business community to be successful.”
The city manager’s findings have to come back and be debated by council before extended Sunday shopping hours are allowed in the Port City.
Retailers would be allowed to set own business hours on Sunday under bylaw amendment
Saint John is moving toward expanded hours of Sunday shopping.
City council voted Monday night to have managers draft an amendment to the Sunday shopping by-law that would allow retailers to set their own hours. Currently, retail stores are allowed to open only between the hours of noon and 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Mayor Mel Norton made it clear he supports the change.
"This is something they want and it's the duty of us as council members to listen to the community and to the constituents," said Norton. "So it's something that's very authentic to support, something that comes from the people that are really driving our economy.
"We need to have every tool available to our business community to be successful," said Norton. "And they sent a message to us very loud and clear through the board of trade survey that this is something that they want."
At the Sept. 16 council meeting, the Saint John Board of Trade presenting the results of a survey of its members indicating that 85 per cent of those responding wanted retailers to set their own hours of business on Sundays.
Council was divided on the issue at the Sept. 16 meeting and elected to table the discussion.
Coun. Shirley McAlary restarted the discussion Monday be reversing her earlier position against expanded Sunday hours.
"I think we have to support the people that are in the business and the people that are making a living at it," said McAlary.
"It's the duty of us as council members to listen."
Saint John is the latest community in New Brunswick to revisit the Sunday shopping debate. In the summer, Fredericton city council voted to relax its Sunday shopping hours with little opposition being expressed.
Opening hours in Saint John cannot be changed until council approves the new wording at a future meeting.
