The arena will bow out a little there, but there was no intent to have it incorporated, thankfully.

Well you're just not looking. Not every place has a football team and in lots of Maritime towns the basketball team has a higher profile than the hockey team.. especially in Nova Scotia. Go anywhere in Cape Breton and it's the local basketball team at the high school or university level that's #1. It speaks volumes that a high school basketball tournament (New Waterford's Coal Bowl) is the biggest sporting event in Cape Breton. The biggest sports team in Sydney is the Cape Breton Capers men's basketball squad. There are lots of other towns all over just like that.

The deeper one goes into NB the less that's true, but most Maritimers live in NS. Btw, in some NS towns hockey is 3rd.

Well considering the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles averaged 2471 last year and the Sullivan Field House (home of the Capers) seats 2200 max, I'd say your logic is flawed. The Capers would have to sellout every game and would still come up short.

And from what I've been reading about CIS basketball attendance, it isn't very good. I have seen your posts about AUS playoff attendance which is good but that's one offs not the regular season.

Sometimes your generalizations are a little over the top.

Have you ever been to a Capers basketball game? Capers fans by the bus load traveled all the way to Ottawa for Nationals, you won't find Cape Bretoners making a pilgrimage like that for the Screaming Eagles, I guarantee you. The Leafs draw less than the Jays, but guess which one is more culturally important? It's your logic that's flawed.

My comments about the AUS and the Maritimes are based on living there for 20 years. First hand experience counts a lot more than your perceptions from 3000 km away.

And around here basketball is 4th. UNB hockey would make it #1, Fredericton Royals baseball #2, the high school football teams #3.

But my point stands....I can't think of a single town in the Maritimes with a population of over, say, 3000, that doesn't have a QMJHL, AUS or Junior A/B hockey team that would play in an arena bigger than a high school gym. Maybe Sackville, but Mount A football is the big thing there.

Anyway, we're getting off topic.

Wolfville and Antigonish just for starters. Football and basketball occupy the top 2 spots.

I've lived there for over 40 and not 3000k away, thank you very much.

You take one example and make a generalization out of it like Moncton high school football making it sound like a weekly Friday night in Texas. I've lived in Moncton and Halifax. They have an event for Touchdown Atlantic and draw a good crowd, doesn't mean it happens all the time.

Back up your claims with some regular season attendance figures. I just found one: St. Francis Xavier at Cape Breton @ CBU 11/14/2012 Att 500

CIS attendances are hard to find but one would think a game against X would be a good draw. But I'll make a generalization out of my example like you do, but from what I've been reading I think my example of regular season CIS/AUS attendance is likely more realistic than yours.

Don't be surprised when people question some of the crazy opinion poop you post as fact.

As for EdFromOttawa, talk of a new Toronto stadium is very much on topic and the reason it may be all this thread talks about is because obviously people here are interested.

Here are the details you left out of your post

- At the north stands, seats have started to be installed. It will take a couple of months to install all the seats.
- Other preparation work continues for repairs to the arena roof.
- At the south stands, precast concrete risers and dividers are being installed at the suite and upper levels.
- On the main concourse level, new concessions are being built and building systems are being installed.
- The anchor bases for the Veil have been installed.

Agreed. I love the construction updates from across Canada, but the subject of a new Toronto stadium is pretty relevant to this thread.

The situation in Toronto is exacerbated by the increasingly bizarre scheduling at Skydome that the Argos have to contend with. Sure, the dome is a busy place and sports scheduling can be complex, so it hasn't been unusual for the Argos to get the odd dud date here and there. But in the past couple seasons it has been getting noticeably worse, and it has to be having an impact on Argos attendance. I mean, Tuesday night and Sunday night games are bad enough, but this year's inability to get a preseason date at Skydome at all is taking things to a new level.

Rogers clearly won't lift a finger to accommodate the Argos... it's a minor miracle that they gave the Argos a lease for the next few years to begin with.

It's just irritating because there are probably 10 pages worth of content on the fact the Argos are in a bad spot and need a new stadium...

Isn't it MORE relevant to discuss Ottawa's brand new stadium which IS being built and the implications IT will have for Ottawa as a city?

Just saying.

Overall though, great thread I don't have many knocks against it. I've just noticed that the Ottawa bits tend to get glossed over around these parts despite the fact that possibly for the first time in modern history, a Canadian sports stadium is ahead of schedule and looking problem free.

TORONTO -- Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment is looking at roof options for Toronto FC at BMO Field at a cost of $100 million-plus.

"I've been to many of the games this year. It's almost like there's a direct correlation between rain and a TFC game," Tim Leiweke, MLSE president and CEO, told a breakfast question-and-answer session with Toronto FC supporters Saturday.

"I've never seen anything like it. Are we cursed or what? It's just the most incredible thing I've ever seen. We got to get you a roof. The owners know it. (MLSE chairman) Larry Tanenbaum is actually involved now day-to-day on the design of the roof.
