Wow. What a difference a year makes.

CC looks like it's straight out of a 1st tier Chinese city ala Shanghai or Beijing. The designs are bold to say the least.

One thing I have noticed about this project is the lengthy road closures and how little it actually has affected traffic in the area. Maybe 104th west of King George can loose a lane in each direction for quite some time into the future without and provide some better cycling until all of the additional streets planned for this area are complete.

The only road closure is the 104 stretch from uni to kgb. That is actually not a very busy stretch actually and most traffic on 104 west turns on kgb and vice versa kgb turn on 104 and go east.

If they closed 104 or reduced lanes say from whalley bvd to 140th then you would see a nightmare on 100/fraser/108.

I do agree though that is hasn't been terrible though kgb has been worse lately.

What was this gala that was held over the weekend? The white tent in the background of City Hall has been removed already and the underground parking portal all blocked off.

I was told move in for the new city hall is now slated for February 2014. That seems more realistic now given the current construction status.

The new City Hall is pretty unassuming from the north (104 Ave) side, but from the side facing the future plaza, it is quite impressive. Hopefully once the trifecta of buildings around the plaza are complete, it will kick start redevelopment of the immediate area.

Anyone know the fate of the North Surrey Rec Centre and the Bus Loop?

I think based on the current plans on the site, the North Delta rec center is to be cut back and the bus loop will ultimately be redeveloped to allow space for the future performing arts center. There is a transit study somewhere that showed the options they were looking at.

Nothing has been finalized though I don't think.

Last time I check plans called for the Ice rinks at North Surrey rec centre were to be destroyed. The pool and Gym will remain for a while. At least until the city sees a suitable replacement area for those too. But for the rinks to be taken down the plans for replacements must be done. I know fleetwood is gonna get one. Talk was always newton would get a second rink. But they haven't planned that far ahead. They having to finish what they are working on now.

As for the bus loop it will be gone. The city is looking to do a more urban bus area of having the bus stops on the actual roads around the area. the new 103 ave in front of the plaza will be one of the roads taking on buses.

Is the Surrey Eye Care Centre building adjacent to the new City Hall slated for redevelopment as well? Sort of looks out of place now given the plaza vision for the area.

That rec gym was pretty bad. I've worked out at Guildford Rec, Fleetwood Rec, Newton Rec, all a countless amount of times and I'd have to say that this one was the worst along with Newton. Just way too small and crowded. Don't think another gym is needed in the area anyway when there is a Club 16 in the mall and Steve Nash Fitness World a couple of blocks down Whalley Rd.

I've been hearing rumors on this forum about a theater. Where about's would that fit in?
