Does the building that they're tearing down go all the way out to Broadway? If so, that could be a nice entrance for Nordstrom.

You're right. It says the project should be complete by November 2018. They have quite some time left.

I wonder if Extell is waiting to sell all of his units on his current project...

It does. About a half block off of Columbus Circle to boot, and near the A/C/B/D/1 lines

A very nice entrance for them.

Nordstrom Tower 1,450 feet and 87 stories

Paul Hastings Represents Nordstrom in Acquiring Site for First New York City Retail Store

Monday, September 23, 2013

Quote:
New York, NY— Paul Hastings, a leading global law firm, announced today that the firm represented Nordstrom, Inc. in its recent acquisition of a development site for its first store in New York City, a 285,000-square-foot retail space which will be bounded by 57th Street, 58th Street, and Broadway. Nordstrom acquired a fee below a plane (located approximately 255 feet above grade) and entered into a reciprocal easement agreement with Extell, as the owner of the air rights above 2,455 feet.

As part of this representation, the firm negotiated a development agreement with Gary Barnett and Extell Development Company pursuant to which Extell will construct the core and shell components of...

the Nordstrom store as part of a major mixed-use real estate development of approximately 865,300 square feet.

Upon completion, it will be one of the tallest buildings in New York City, at approximately 1,450 feet and 87 stories.

Real Estate Partner Bruce DePaola led the Paul Hastings team, which included associates Heather Lockhart and Alyssa Lust.

That photo is the Broadway view. The face in the center is what will remain of the building currently coming down.

What does the Willis Tower have to do with this development?

The residential component will be the 865,000 sf above the store, which Nordstrom owns. At whatever height it eventually rises, it will be another supertall rising, and a quality design no doubt. Only good news here. ( I would also caution about that height in the press release ).

Yeah, it would have been nice if it was 100 feet taller but think about it...it's 50 feet taller than 432 and 450 feet taller than it's (almost) next door neighbor, One57...that's tremendous!

I see that went nowhere, but I don't think you people should start making definitive height judgments until the design is revealed.

So true.

Do wait for official numbers/heights so you won't be disappointed.

height similarities, they have nothing to do with eachother just comparing height to the roof.
