While I can understand being tired of the trend of making everything blue glass, as always, it is about the execution. The east side that is mostly just glass is bordered by buildings that are mostly traditional materials. The west side's lower podium is not just glass and the tower portion is copper/blue glass with the white smaller tower on the north side. To the north and south of the building are heavy looking granite skyscrapers and within a block are the Austonian, Frost, and 3rd and Colorado which are almost all pure blue glass structures. This building meshes extremely well with its surroundings which makes a great design even better.

No, I'm not tired of glass. Brick windows wouldn't work because of a little thing called physics.

I mean that it seems that the vast majority of buildings going up all over the world are predominantly blue glass. That may be a generalization, but you get the point. It's my opinion that if you're going to hire an architect to do something original, that architect should do something original. It takes extra effort. It's easy to do things like everyone else. But the ones who do will stand out.

But as I said before, I prefer the side of the building with the copper/wood looking material. It looks cool and also acts to delineate the space between the windows, thus giving the building a sense of human scale. That scale not only acts as a reminder that the building is made for humans, it also makes it appear larger because you are able to see dozens of rows of windows as opposed to one large wall of blue glass.

From the West on 2nd Street.

And East on 2nd Street.

It's starting to be visible from East of I-35.

Are they double layering glass for those horizontal and vertical stripes?

yeah, I'm not too sure what's happening with the glass. It looks uneven with the random cross stripes.

They're going to be finished out, I assume.

Love the tower, but the podium is just "meh" for me right now. Hopefully the glass and the final finishing touches will tie it all together, but right now I'm not a fan of the base (so far).

I don't mind the precast panels on the tower actually since the tower is going to appear differently from every side. But it needs to be easier on the eyes along Congress.

I agree on the podium but I'm holding out on judgement until it's closer to being finished. I may be in the minority here but I really liked the Podium on the old design, I hated the tower but liked the podium. It had a nice mid century look that I thought fit in well on Congress. I don't think the new design is going to age well.

Yeah, I liked that version of the podium. It wasn't so in-your-face and looked more streamlined. The version now is too busy.

The facade on the east side is really interesting in the afternoon the way it reflects the sunlight.
