No harm in another one, and right in the heart of the action in the CBD. It is little things like this that will keep active street/plaza areas in the CBD past office hours.

Plus with the Bay looking to add a restaurant and lounge to their building again it provides some unique opportunities for evening entertainment. Dinner and a skate.

Good catch! I didn't even notice that. It is this level of detail and finishing that will make this tower much more than just a box. Really hope Brookfield keeps things as close to these renderings due to that.

I agree with TallBob. I think the design is great and timeless. It's high quality with just enough architectural edge to make it ineresting (in my opinion). People who call it a box certainly have never been to Toronto. Though, I guess for Calgary it is boxy, it will be our only skyscraper over 170 meters with a rectanguloid flat roof.

Didn't know this .. These two properties will be a nice compliment to each other

Actually the plaza design and layout of Brookfield is revolutionary for the area as there really isn't anything this pedestrian friendly adjacent to Stephen Ave on the tracks ... It lends itself to connect 7th Ave and the C-train line with Stephen Ave in a massive way, I'm very excited to see how much Brookfield brightens up that block as a whole

That planned SE plaza will allow for some nice sight lines of the Bay building.

The Bay just announced that restaurant/lounge stuff yesterday, on the 100th anniversary of the building.

That is excellent about The Bay. Did they announce anything about cleaning up the facade and restoring the granite and marble in the prominade/archway?

I agree. and get rid of that asphalt sidewalk where all the bums hang out. Make it nice for the people who have to wait for the bus.

The new Hudson's Bay restaurant space will actually have a dining patio with seating IN the SW colonnade, spilling out onto Stephen Ave - so I would think there will be some efforts to clean up that space and exterior. I always thought that would be a wicked place for a restaurant with a patio. It's interesting that there will also be a cocktail lounge in the basement below it. It seems pretty ambitious.

The announcement yesterday also stated that the sixth floor of the store will house a 20,000 Loft-style event facility for meetings, weddings and other functions, which will be patterned after the Arcadian Loft space that exists atop the Toronto Queen St. Store.

The fact that HBC is investing in this store is a good thing - hopefully it leads to further upgrades and the proper exterior cleaning/renovation that it deserves.

My biggest beef with this project now is that it's twins, the materials look top notch, and we are getting some really nice buildings in the area, so a boxy building could provide nice contrast, just hate having another twin tower project.

That's really great! Hopefully it does spur some improvement to the aesthetics, regardless, it will be great. Thanks for the info!

That's actually awesome news .. This type of space is definitely lack in downtown, and to accommodate it in such a busy location is great

Agree .. Wish they'd sacrifice some of the functionality on the second shorter tower to add a dynamic, unique design to compliment the taller tower and make it really pop in the skyline

Maybe we're just getting greedy

^^ Agreed about Brookfield. I'd still like to see the main/taller tower about 6-10 stories taller and when the time comes for the shorter tower.... make it a mixed use with a large hotel component in it. Doesn't have to be all office space! Just my 3 cents worth.

The announcements from The Bay reminded me that there is a short window of time to capture some pictures of the the entire north facade of the Bay in one frame while this site is still bare ground - likely for the first time since the store was built.

Would be really cool to have a hotel and observation deck up top, and bump this up to an even 300m, but unfortunately looks like we'll have to settle for 247m this time.

I wonder if the Fifth Avenue Place block is maxed out on FAR. I think not. I like to see that plaza developed. It looks like the block can easily accommodate a podium addition 6-10 storeys high with retail on the first two levels.

Those who want to ice skate, the closest one will be only less than two blocks away both street and +15 level.

I’d maybe like to see a couple of permanent parking spots on the plaza for food trucks. Maybe the employees in the building could vote on their top 10 and those trucks could be invited on a rotating basis, perhaps with a newcomer or two each week as well. I think that would be a great way to incorporate the food trucks.
