I have said it before and will say it again, a major Hydro substation is across the back lane from Gio's. Hydro has repeatedly tried unsucessfully to increase substation capacity in the downtown core. I would be absoultely shocked if the Gio's site was not purchased for an expansion of the Hydro substation.

It's already beyond sales... 2-3 weeks ago, went by and they were already driving in piles and laying out the base of the future parking lot and roads. Works already begun!

big tent setup this morning in parking lot next to Winipeg clinic (St.Mary & Kennedy) i believe. some sort of announcement maybe? or perhaps it's a customer appreciation even for patients of Winnipeg Clinic! ha ha.

does it piss off anyone else that many Dr offices are old and look like crap? I understand some that are gov't owned but many a re privately owned. what a bunch of cheapskates some of these guys are. I guess they have no incentive in fixing up their place as patients dont have a choice for the most part. Winnipeg Clinic, Manitoba Clinic by HSC, St B clinic on Tache are all owned by a consortium of doctors. I dont spend a lot of time in these places but my daughter has juvenille arthritis so we need to see various Dr every now and then and when i do, I'm always shocked at the lack of investment these Dr put into their buildings. This project has been changed - two 4 storey buildings with about 84 units. Likely between $15 and $20 million.

There's the answer. Business is pretty good even if the clinic decor is midcentury institutional. My parents see a very old (but good) doctor with a downtown clinic... it looks like something you'd expect to see Don Draper in from a scene out of the 1960s. I'm not sure that there's even a computer anywhere on the premises, but the waiting room is always full.

That said, I have heard some rumblings about a new Manitoba Clinic facility.

This time of year a lot of offices are doing charity campaign (ie United Way) kick-offs for their staff. The tent could also be for a staff appreciation day.

As for renovations to the Winnipeg Clinic offices, to my knowledge the place has a fully occupancy with a high number of specialists. If you have ever needed to see a specialist you have first hand knowledge of just how busy they are making renovations a tricky thing to schedule.

Well, this explains the $60 million discrepancy in the estimate.

No no, it's all good. I was just meaning that Glasshouse was on the parkade, then it was stand alone tower. Now it's back on the parkade again it seems.

20 months to complete a parkade and tower?? Sounds a bit optimistic.

Judging by the rest of the project being precast, I'm going to assume the same for the rest of it. So 20 months may not be too far off. How long has construction being going at ALT? Started in March/April ish. So in 6 months the podium is up, hotel to rise pretty soon. I would expect a similar timeline for the Parkade/Glasshouse.

And don't forget its "industrial sheek" right?! lol So exposed ceilings and ducts, concrete, etc. Less finishing work on the inside may lead to a shorter construction schedule.
