Does anyone know whats taking the place of Sportchek on Plaza Dr?

I also fondly remember that old mall...going to Dominion for groceries with my parents and watching the bags go out on a conveyor belt for store-front pick up.

Ft Richmond mall will be next to go. Does anyone know anything about that place? Virtually everything inside the mall is closed down. Safeway (with no outside access and never been updated) is the only main tenant. There is a small insurance place and jewlers if memory serves.

I actually need to visit that mall, so I can send pics and descriptions to the DeadMalls website. Thanks for reminding me

Went by Unicity, SportChek building completed and the State/Main bar/grill place is finishing its framing.

Had heard it is actually an Original Joe's not State & Main, same company, same menu, different name. That said, I think they are past framing as it looks like some sheeting is going on and their are definitely signs up for the roofing company.

I thought there was an article a while back that they were no longer going to open Original Joe's here because the name wasn't distinctive enough so they were going to use State & Main exclusively.

That would make sense given the presence of Average Joe's, Chicago Joe's, Joey's Seafood, 'Joey'.

I first thought Original Joe's was a dive bar kind of joint like The Pemby or the Curtis. Didn't know it was high class sports bar chain.. Maybe they should try Plain Jane's and see if that works!

Interesting find, but something is off in that information...that works out to nearly $1M a door. Seems like a steep price for that area, to put it mildly. Surely the project must be bigger or the price is lower??

Start date was sometime in October IIRC from the tender. Or at least when they are authorized to start. Might not be for a bit after that date, who knows. But completion is September 2014.

This kinda would make sense, even if it is a rumour,or a not so reliable source.

Go Condo at SopPo, rather than Hotel, build the Hotel across the street at the carlton inn site, if I understand you correctly. You would have 2 Hotels (new L-Shaped as you said) as well as the Delta kitty corner to the new one. Why not add Condo/Residential to the mix, sounds reasonable?

Anybody heard anything on the Gio's site? It was bought for development, but that's all I've heard.

If the Gio's site were developed with something similar to the area, approx. 20 storey building, and Fortress goes through. Smith Street would have one heck of a canyon effect. From the river all the way to Ellice. That's one of my favourite places. I like coming over the midtown bridge heading north and looking down the street. Makes me feel big city!
