This one in particular is getting people eager with anticipation. People know it's not going to be your average football stadium. It's Saskatchewan, for crying out loud.

I'm willing to bet that Regina's new facility will be pretty impressive though.

There has been at least one very interesting development in this process. I heard about it a week ago. However, as noted above, things are meant to be kept confidential during this phase, so I'm not saying anything more. That being said, I'll be interested to see how long it takes to hit the media.

Sure I can. I don't think it's something that is of great importance to many on this forum who are mainly concerned about what the stadium is going to look like. It concerns the process and the proponents. Sorry to be such a tease.

Okay Mata Hari, can you tell us that this will delay the construction, change the design or limit the seating?

No changes to any of those things. Just a development in the P3 procurement process.

Agree. I'll be making a pilgrimage there from Toronto when it's done. I imagine that many football folk across Canada will make a point of doing the same.

Can you divulge when we can expect to see a rendering? Capacity?

Sorry, no inside info on that sort of thing.

The extent of my knowledge of the design development from talking to participants in the process is that people shouldn't be expecting to see a polycarbonate half-roof similar to what was presented to the public. This is a P3 project where the successful proponent will be selected primarily on $$$, provided that they are delivering a facility that adheres to the requirements of the RFP. Strictly my own opinion - I expect to see a stadium that will be very nice, but not likely as light & airy as the Patel concept.

I have heard the exact same thing. No one will be stepping out and trying something really novel (for Sask and Canada) where the contractor consortium has to bear the risk.

I think it's wise that we lower our expectations after the Patel renderings any way; they were conceptual.

before a concept is approved = "totally feasible due to new technology and construction techniques"

after the concept gets go ahead = "concept was merely to provide a vision, nobody expects anything to be actually built like the concept showed"

Exactly, hence 'conceptual'. What gets built is rarely what is shown in a conceptual drawing.

The problem is by most accounts it's never even close to as interesting, and when asked what the final design will look like it is always exagerated. So why even spend millions making renderings of a really interesting looking, contoured building with transparent roof panels when in reality it would be more cost effective and accurate to show an extruded irregular octagon?

It doesn't make the case for a needed stadium, it only propogates the annoyance by the general public that we are always getting less for our taxpayer dollar than we agreed to.

I personally liked the first concept of this stadium, back on page 1 of the thread, not merely because it had a retractable roof, but because it was quite a compelling and reasonable rendering. The Patel design has always felt pointless and impossible.
