I too think he will be a good person in the position, and has engaged with us both here (responding to my opinion of fence sitting ) and on the CalgaryPuck forums. Plus he is very well engaged via twitter, so it will be a refreshing change for Ward 1 residents.

Have there been any good summaries of the councilors' platforms for each ward yet? More often than not, I'm finding it hard to see how candidates would be any different.
Ward 8 seems to be one of the most sought after territories, but so far most of the candidates seem to be exactly like Mar ideologically (which is not a bad thing; I'm fine with Mar). Are his challengers any different, or is it an ego-driven popularity contest?
He's for Secondary Suites, that alone would get him my vote if I lived in the ward.
I enjoyed putting the platform together. While it's only 20 pages, I spent a lot of time with the crew listening hard and trying to understand what constituents were communicating as priorities. I'm looking forward to the other candidates in my ward doing the same.
Our campaign donor disclosures are also coming out Nomination Day (September 23) with at least another update before Election Day. A tradition that will be a requirement someday I hope!

If they are entitled to OT then it should not be taken back. However, if they are management (ie on salary) then they should not get overtime anyhow and the policies need to be changed going forward.

Inelligibility for overtime by Salaried Managers is really only meant to cover normal overtime. In extraordinary situations, public or private companies cover the overtime through profit sharing or other discretionary bonuses. The city does not have a mechanism to pay out discretionary bonuses through an appropriate metric (e.g. profitability). For this reason I support payout of overtime as a discretionary bonus.

Interesting point. I've been on salary all my career and have never OT paid to me. Bonuses yes, and they certainly were discretionary. Sometimes none at all, sometimes a little bit - it all depended on what kind of year the company had and had little to do with my workload. But your post is food for thought.

I'm with you, to date my salaried jobs have expressly excluded the payment of overtime in any form, cash, time or otherwise.
