There is a year round greenhouse at the Fredericton South store as well. Think there might be one in the SJ east store also.

There is a greenhouse at the Kent on Trinity Drive in Moncton too.

I think it might be more appropriate to say that the new Kent in Charlottetown is the "template" for future stores in the chain rather than the "flagship". It looks very much like the new Kent being built on Harrisville Blvd in Moncton.

There are other Kent stores in Moncton, Saint John and Halifax which are certainly larger......

Your probably right MonctonRad, I just remember reading something in The Gardian about it being the "flagship" store. I didn't really agree but it is a big improvement on the old location.

Yeah, the Guardian is sometimes a bit presumptuous with its declarations, plus they often refuse to publish my letter to the editor, glad that the letters editor has finally retired.

Mt Edward Rd intersection improvement and Capital Drive.

Mt Edward Rd, University Ave and Capital Drive intersection improvement.

The city of Charlottetown needs to widen the right hand turn lane at Belvedere Ave and Mt Edward Rd and University and Belvedere Ave.
The two photos show the wider straight lanes at both intersections. Removing the grass shoulder at Mt Edward and Belvedere would allow right turn traffic. The grass shoulder goes all the way back to the MacLaughlin Building. And by taking a foot off the sidewalk at Belvedere Ave and University would make it wide enough to add a marked right turn lane also.

Mt Edward Rd & Belvedere Ave.

Belvedere and University Ave

I'm writing this because I was nearly side swiped by a person at Mt Edward and Belvedere. I pulled up to the light keeping left to the line to allow right turn traffic. A car pulled up beside me and I guess he thought I was turning left. So when the light turned green, he went straight and I went straight with him blasting his horn at me because I went straight. I'm not sure what drugs he was on but he had no clue what lane he was in.
So what is the city going to do to improve this awful arrangement. Once the traffic circle goes in at the Vogue/Esso intersection, even more traffic will be thrown that way. It's bad enough now! Hopefully a review of intersections will soon be done.

The worst of all of those I think is the Capital Drive/Spencer Drive fiasco. I travel towards the Peter Pan intersection daily. All the time I see tourists driving straight into the Mall parking lot suddenly realizing that they missed a turn. PLEASE, PLEASE take down that pathetic sign (see picture below). How can anyone know where the city centre is? There should be a large overhead sign pointing the way to the city centre and route 2, Summerside, Cavendish, Souris. Obviously the city isn't concerned and with 2014 celebrations coming, they had better put it in the budget because most will have no clue where Charlottetown's downtown is. As a friend of mine once said, "not everyone has NAVI". Maybe the city is waiting until we all do.

BTW, don't get me going on where Spencer Drive empties. What a pitiful arrangement to have all the traffic go through a mall to get to Mt Edward Rd. Just down right bad city planning.

Capital Drive, Where is the city centre?

Hahahaha that's hilarious!! If only! "Hey!!! Listen!!! Turn right here!!!"

Seriously tho! I couldn't agree with you more!! Spencer Drive should go all the way to MT Edward.

I've have my fair share if close calls just trying to turn by that Subway!. Even on University Ave going north the far left lane becomes the left turn lane and the new right lane starts for turning right and going straight. They should widen the whole thing right down to KFC! It's all already crown land anyway, the experimental farm, RCMP & CBC building so they should have no problem adding a left turn lane, right turn lane and 2 straight lanes.

You are so right about the dangerous intersections you reference in the photos. It is a farce and the City has allowed this to continue for way too long. The City has done well with other imporvements but this needs to be addressed very soon!

Please someone tell me, how many lanes are at that intersection of Belvedere and University by the Subway. I would assume it's only two, but traffic always ends up making it three lanes. I do as the others do when turning right onto University, but I can't be so sure that right turn only lane is real.

More Poor Signage:

Thanks for the comments. Now if only we can get the city to listen.

Here is an even better one.

Travelling into Charlottetown on the TCH heading up the hill towards the Maypoint intersection, how many signs do you have to read to find out where you need to go? I'm sure most people wouldn't bother as they are small, out of the way and with four lanes of traffic who would take their eyes off the road to look.

Of all the cities in Canada and the U.S. I've visited, Charlottetown has the worst signage by far. Now hats off to the new bypass signs but you need to go further and this is one location a large overhead sign would be visible and safer for drivers.

Approaching the up the hill you are greeted with this sign:

Looks inviting doesn't it! Impressive!

Next you find this sign:

Then this one:

At 80km/h would you take your eyes off the road on a four lane highway to read them.

Again, the city has fallen short and if I'm not mistaken it probably should be a provincial responsibility. Summerside has much better signage than Charlottetown has on it's approaching highways.

Time to get with it guys. That's if you can get out from behind your comfy desks down at city hall.

As that other friend of mine said, "they have two lanes signs on a four lane highway."

Personally I think they should just complete the damn Charlottetown bypass so that it extends all the way around Cornwall. That would solve the problem of trying to find the Upton road to get onto the bypass.

The completion of the bypass to me would be a lot more important that the TCH realignment in Strathgartney. They should have done this first......

MonctonRad you are absolutely right finishing that project would have the smart thing to do instead of the Strathgartney Plan B. I am not sure it will ever be finished now. There is no talk about it at all.

The Town of Cornwall brings it up every election. The Liberal government just doesn't want to do it I guess. It eventually will get done though. They really need to redo the entire bypass so its 4 lanes, divided and has overpasses and interchanges. But the chances of this happening in the next 10 years are about as likely as PEI having its own NHL team.

Charlottetown probably more than any city in our region requires rather extensive upgrades to the highways and roads. Our bypass system is universally mocked for good reason namely far too many traffic lights so overpasses and multiple lanes are required and have been required since way back in 1988 if not earlier. I look forward to these improvements but wonder where the money will come from.

Convention Centre and Explorer of the Seas

I thought I would take a picture yesterday of the Explorer of the Seas. With the open area in front of the new convention centre, it adds a whole wide open view on the water front.

Canadian Tire Parade Ready to take Action

Here they are all lined up on the ready, waiting for the command to start leveling the hill for the preparation of the new Canadian Tire store on Spencer Drive.

I didn't realize it was confirmed thats what's being built there...In other news on Spencer Drive, Goji's going in the little building along the road. It will be PEI's first location.

They have to do it piece by piece. This is a rough ten year plan of how they could do it:
2014: Roundabouts @ Riverside Dr. Irving, and Hospital, removal of highway access @ Hillsborough Park & Kensington Road. Add on & off ramps to Pioneer Drive.
2015: Divide highway from QEH to St. Peters Road. Divide highway between Oak Drive overpass and 500m before Brackley Point Road. Remainder of land bought for Cornwall Bypass.
2016: Interchange @ Malpeque Road.
2017: Remove highway access to Mount Edward Road, replace with divided overpass. Divide highway from Lower Malpeque Road Overpass to 500m after Mount Edward Road overpass.
2018: Interchange @ St. Peters Road, Widened Lower Malpeque Road overpass, divided until 500m before Upton road.
2020: North River Bridge built. Interchanges @ Upton Road & York River Road.
2022: Interchange @ Brackley Point Road, connect undivided parts.
2024: Cornwall Bypass completed, overpass @ Kingston Road

I made it haha. I was showing that a 22 year old can come up with a cost effective was of completely the damn thing, and there probably would be enough money some of those years to do the regular repaving and the Crapaud Bypass too. Many people thing overpasses cost way too much money, but when you do them one per year it doesn't look at bad. The Feds would obviously have to help but it still still a way to get it done.
