Fewer parking spaces than units? Hallelujah, this is a milestone for Atlanta, especially considering most of the units will have mutiple bedrooms. Now if only the proposal 2 blocks east didn't have a 1000+ space 10-story parking deck planned...

Outdoor advertising is sacred in Georgia.

Unfortunately it's not just Buckhead either. They could require the removal of the trees at Spring and 14th if they want to. They're just little baby trees right now but once they start growing they may have to go.

We've got billboards all over the place in this town.

i think the point in the law is to prevent someone from like planting a tree directly in front of the billboard just to piss off the billboard owner. someone probably did this somewhere and i would reckon that's why the law was written.

i seriously doubt that this law will be enforced— it's probably just a recourse for the billboard owner if someone sticks a tree directly in front of the sign because they don't like it.

There is a reason for that huge deck. I've got a couple of people I know that work in the AGL building and they have parking problems even with it being a surface lot. Even with that large amount of parking, I bet a majority of that lot will be full a lot of the time.

Sucks to have a huge deck, but its way better than the surface lot that is there.

Went passed it today and am incredibly pissed off. The bike lanes were barricaded with those large white/orange plastic walls and the lane was full of event vehicles either setting up or dismantling equipment at the park. To add insult to injury, all if the white plastic buffers were taken out.

Seriously, why can the event staff not just use the gravel parking lot by park tavern?! Or better yet, drive into the park with the rest of the service vehicles, set up and then gtfo.

They eventually basically just moved the bike lane over one lane, and dropped 10th street to 2 lanes total for both directions. so 2 lanes of E/W traffic, then the bike lane, then the service vehicles parked along the curb. Seemed to work ok.

It was definitely packed, the whole area was a mad house.

Per ABC, the cycle track can only be blocked for events with more than 50,000 attendees (so Music Midtown this weekend, Dogwood, etc.) going forward.

As for the tree/billboard ordinance, it absolutely gets enforced all of the time. It's horrible.

Went to the ferris wheel and had to wait an hour to get on it. First time on it at night and was impressed. Seems like it's doing really well, so well a guy that worked there told me they're planning on making it larger, and keeping it around longer than originally planned.

Drove down Spring during lunch today and they're taking down a bunch of trees where the new Ga Tech student apartment tower will be.

lol @ that billboard law. Each billboard is a full 18 acres of impacted land. Apparently I live in a billboard prohibition zone, as does much of Midtown (don't forget there are billboards on Peachtree, Juniper, and in other unexpected places).

I'd love to backlash against any company that actually enforces it in a place like Midtown.

how are they going to make it larger? they'd basically have to reconstruct the ferris wheel!

It would be unpopular but I doubt they'd worry too much about it.

After all, an outdoor advertising company just proposed that a smokestack redone as a digital billboard will be ideal as downtown's new icon.

As a libertarian you may think I'm pro-billboard, but I'm not. I will vote for any governor candidate who promises to go on a vendetta against them. I would gladly participate in an organized boycott of their advertisers. They have destroyed the natural beauty of this city and state.

Novel Compromise

Curbed Atlanta reports that the Decatur St/Blvd rent facility will be fronted by a retail component including a renters conference center and a coffee shop. Promises to give some street appeal for the Old 4th development.

Construction is starting (possible in earnest this time) on the renovation (or complete redo) of the old building at the corner of Peachtree St. and 25th St.

It is/was an old lowrise brick building that's been abandoned for years. It was recently cleaned out and signage put up indicating it will be a new church (because we obviously need more of those in Atlanta ).

They were tearing off part of the roof the other day and now more equipment is on site, I'll try to snap some pics this afternoon (I work right around the corner).

Also, the Chipotle that is going in to the former Wolfgang Puck/Baronda/Fig Jam Cafe is in the process of building out the interior.
