It's also possible that they'll lower the cost of the units to encourage sales and therefore have less money to spend on the design. All they need to sell units is a nice rendering, but if it's executed with cheap materials and/or poor attention to detail, it will look like crap. See Aura, Trump, etc.

Page+Steele is hardly the worst offenders out there. They're Cityplace contributions are pretty good too; better than aA and RAW

From Tuscani at UT - regarding the Concord Adex Cityplace Signature Towers of 66 and 70 floors.

Quote:
As for the height of the building, it will definitely be taller than your average 70 storey building. In the renderings I saw, the roof feature looked like quite a few stories itself. It will be raised from the top of the building and surrounded by glass, so you can view the underside of the top slab, which is where the artwork will be located.

I tried sketching it on paint but it looked nothing like what I saw.

I just noticed how similar their user names are.

Frankie/Chester, for some reason I thought you were an insider. You seem to know a lot about the details of various construction projects.

I know it's still early days, but any idea when a rendering is likely to be made public for the Signature towers. Reading the above I'm excited for what could be.

It's P+S or what I call PoS so it will be inferior to the aA or RAW proposals.

They moved the hoarding for Brookfield Place out into the middle of the street, converting a 3 lane street into 2 lanes temporarily. The sidewalk is also inside the hoarding of course. It looks like they are preparing to bring in heavy machinery and a site office. How exciting!

There's actually a site just across the street that has a covered walk way, oddly enough because it's not even a building UC, just a podium redevelopment. I'm not sure if Brookfield Place will have a protected walkway or no. Hopefully in the winter, that would be a nice shield from the snow

funny, in Toronto it is considered odd not to have a covered walkway. The One York site doesn't have one along Harbour st., but that is the only example I can think of. now of course it makes it essentially impossible to walk down Harbour as there is a Gardiner off ramp on the other side of the street, so I am amazed the City hasn't forced them to install one.

BA2 has Adelaide closed. The photo of Brookfield place reminded me of a trip to Calgary during the last boom and encountering closed sidewalks all over the place. (at least half the sites)

Bisha is erecting a staging area over the pit to accomodate a walkway and the relocated facade

It is the norm in Edmonton once the crane goes up.

your right, Adelaide is closed for BAC2. It is a short detour up to Temperance though. Usually what happens is a construction company will close one lane of traffic, give the traffic lane to pedestrians, and use the sidewalk space as staging area.

That's what they've done with Brookfield Place. However, it remains to be seen if they will erect a covered walkway or not, construction hasn't yet begun, but this development today seems to show that it is closely imminent. Finally.
