All I said is I'd rather go to a museum about the history of people than the history about music.

There would be nothing wrong with a Holocaust museum, if it was 100% privately funded by the Aspers. However, there is no point of leaving taxpayers on the hook for what essentially is a watered-down Holocaust museum. The building itself, is impressive, but I think most people can safely admit that the Human Rights museum is doomed to fail.

The history of music is just as important as the history of genocide. Especially if the history the museum is going to present, is inaccurate or slanted at best.
,
I can bet on two things in my lifetime:

1) No man is immoral, and I will eventually meet my maker.

2) The atrocities and human rights violations by the state of Israel, towards the Palestinain population will be left out of the CMHR. The credibility of the musuem will take a big hit for this, and many will begin to question why public funds are used to prop up what essentially is a propaganda museum for the State of Israel.

The few people who support the CMHR, are a dying breed, and it is time to admit that the museum itself, is going to be a complete failure. However, that does not mean Winnipeg can make good use, out of the building itself, with minor renovations.
Stop calling it a Holocaust museum, and seriously get your head out of your 🞵🞵🞵. There is a board of dedicated humanitarians, historians etc. that decide what is going in. Yes the Holocaust is going to be an exhibit, but there will be much, much, much more. Unless you are on the board yourself you have no idea what is going in there, nor does anyone else. So stop berating the Aspers, who have nothing to do with the content and move on.

And you sound extremely naive when commenting about how people never go to museums when one of the first things most people do when visiting the city is go to the Manitoba Museum, followed by the Art Gallery, etc. Museums are always frequented, and this is probably one of the country's most talked about museums at the moment.

Of course this is allllll personal opinions. So don't get too offended!
You do know that with any conflict it's the winning side that writes the history.

What would be the point of the conflict if they didn't?

No need to get personal, Chris. I'm sorry if I offended you, by being critical of the CMHR. To make it up to you, I can take you out for Ice Cream at Sergent Sundae this weekend. My treat!

I am not at all personally offended. Did I come across as such? Nor did I make it personal. I am just getting annoyed with people talking out of there asses regarding things that they know nothing about.

It is OK to be frustrated with the fact that the government spent so much money on the museum. It is OK to not necessarily agree with the museum and the ideas behind it. But to come out and constantly spread the same baseless 🞵🞵🞵🞵 over and over again (4 years straight now you have said the same garbage, without any proof behind your claims) just gets tiring. You clearly have a vendetta against the Aspers or maybe Jews, maybe they stole your lunch money as a kid, I don't know. But at this point they have as much a role in the museum as blow joe off the street. Being critical is one thing, what you are doing is along the lines of a sad attempt at sabotage or something.

Save the criticism for an actual experience, or if you have vowed to never go wait until you actual know what will be in the museum.

I am curious as to what you think of the architecture however? You have to admit that it is at least somewhat interesting.

And you berating me like a child only highlights your own immaturity, unless you really want to go out for ice cream, to which I say; I would love to.

Enough already. None of this has to do with the construction of the museum. Sour grapes, thinly veiled hate speech, critique -- whatever you want to call it doesn't belong is this thread. Moderators??

You mean we have moderators? I've seen little or no evidence of it.

Now, when the museum fails, Chris can blame Colin!

If the museum fails I will congratulate you all on your predictions, and will do so by buying you all a round. All I ask is that you wait and see, because it really isn't anything that one can accurately claim at this point.

Note that I have never said it will be a success, because honestly I don't know. The only biased thing I have tried to claim is that I personally love the architecture and the more I see it the more I love it. Especially now that you can see the interior when walking past it at night. The building (regardless of contents) is pretty amazing.

It would have to fail in a multitude of ways for it to close up shop. The operational costs will be heavily subsidized by the federal government, so if visits are low the board could just create a super economical class visit program to juice their numbers. Event bookings can be helped the same way, to get passed the initial diffculties of having a wedding reception in alongside exhibits.

Now, will that really be satisfying the original mission? Not really. I wouldn't be surprised if its first 20 years involve wholesale changes to at least some of the programs such as a conversion of space for exhibits on loan from other federal museums.

There was a thread to discuss the shortcomings of the idea of a human rights museum but it was deemed too politically incorrect by moderators and was deleted.

There has been so much whining and crying about this museum from Winnipeggers it makes me sick and embarrased for the city. There are forums like Winnipeg Zoom, Winnipeg Sandbox and the ultimate of toxic, Winnipeg Topix for people to 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 and complain about it there ad nauseum. Please keep that 🞵🞵🞵🞵 out of this forum as all it will do will bring unjustified animosity into our conversations.

While I don't share the view that the museum will be a disaster, or that museums shouldn't be subsidized, I don't understand why these topics can't be debated here. I agree that the CMHR "debate" thread should be brought back, as long as the discussion remains civil and doesn't turn into a flame-war.

I hope so. Our cultural history as it pertains to music is worthy of a museum, but to be so disconnected to the worldwide struggle for human rights that one wouldn't visit is down right shocking. The CMHR is something Manitobans should be proud of. It's the first federal museum outside of Ottawa so it's disheartening to hear so much negativity towards something that should invoke civic pride.
