I know from years past though season ticket holders near us would not attend the home playoff games as it was uncomfortibly cold out, now imagine if the stadium design is dropping that another 10-15 C.
The steel trusses do it. It'll be interesting to see what the shadows are like during an earlier start. The Banjo Bowl is at 2 I believe, I think they have other Sunday games at 2 and noon. There isn't any sun in the bowl unless it is high noon, I guess that's the price we pay for 80% coverage, just hope there is no wind when it rains. Maybe I'm just grumpy, but as a football fan I would have preferred a football stadium to a desktop background.

This is what Regina's new stadium concept designer says:

The spectator roof will keep you dry, but it will also keep you cool on hot days and warm on cold days. Most activities at the stadium will happen between June and November. Knowing this, we can harness the wind and sun to control the climate in the new stadium. The winds in Regina are predominantly in the northwest/southeast axis. Moveable vents will control air flow through the stadium, maximizing spectator comfort. Controlling wind can mean a 10°C difference in temperature.

From winter to summer, the path of the sun through the sky changes. It is low in the winter and high in summer. We will shape the spectator roof with this in mind so it provides the most sunshine in winter and the most shade during summer.

two million.

it also burns pout the turf much more quickly....i always believed it was a ploy to get money from the government...proving it was 'for the people' not pro athletes...it was always a farce...if you want a bubble good for beer league soccer, build it somewhere else...you dont need a $240m stadium for that.

it was a big deal when announced though...pretty funny that nobody in the press asks where it went...maybe they will this winter.

The issue with indoor soccer facilities is theoritically we are at the point of economic staturation already. If you look back about ten years Winnipeg had three private facilities and the Winter Club. In that time we added roughly the same about of space in league run facilities and all the private facilities became financially unviable and closed. Been away from things for a few years but it used to be an hour of time on an indoor soccer field had a similar rental fee to an indoor sheet of ice but on the operational side the cost to run was significantly less (no ice plant, no zamboni).

That said, I am not sure the full details on how the IGF dome was to operate but you would likely need 4 dressing rooms for each section used for recreational use to allow the teams actively out there plus the next group coming on to have the space they needed. The size of IGF would suggest that is somewhere in the 8-16 recreational dressing room range. Something that big should be pretty obvious if it is in the facility. From what I have seen it would likely have to be on the operations level some place. We could really determine if the dome was ever seriously planned if anyone know if they included anywhere near that many recreational dressing rooms?

There's definitely still demand for high quality indoor fields like the new soccer complex. Ultimate Frisbee has to run leagues at the golf dome at 10:30 and 11:30 PM because that's the only available space. We otherwise get time between 6:30 and 11:30 at the U of M Soccer Complex, but that is Sundays only. There is likely enough demand on the ultimate side (football is perhaps similar) to utilize an entire facility's full prime hours at least five days a week.

They'll have to finish the U of W and perhaps build another one before you start to see any prime hours at these facilities opening up.

There's another field house going up at Dakota, on a slightly smaller scale than U of W from my understanding.

I heard the soccer facility which operated under the name CoverAll in Headingely claimed that unless they had commitments that would cover basically about 48 hours of rentals a week at rates similar to ice rental rates that they would not be financially able to keep their doors open. That doesn't mean that demand is not there, it is just that demand at the cost needed for operations is not there.

Part of the demand which could use indoor field house type facilities instead book times in every gym you can find and even some less traditional spaces. If it costs somewhere around $180/hour for a indoor soccer field or you can get a high school gym for two hours for free which do you think most people will pick?

Imagine trying to heat the coverall in a week of -20 in mid-January.

How does coverall differ from the golf dome in terms of heating it? The Golf Dome goes year round, of course they have the additional revenue associated with the golfing.

I know that for ultimate at least, gyms and the turf places with boards like Garden City aren't options.

I travelled from Saskatchewan and attended the Banjo Bowl Yesterday. We took the River Rouge cruise from the exchange docks to the U of M. This was a great way to travel and loved experiencing the River from that vantage point. I will try to upload some pictures when I have time.

First of all IGF is absolutely fantastic and you Peggers should consider yourselves spoiled. It is the prefect size and set up in my books. I do not know enough about the location to comment on that and the experience of the River Cruise made up for any location issues, and then some.

I had zero complaints about IGF. The place is gorgeous. The seats are wide and comfortable and close to action. The wrap around concourse is great. You still feel like you are in the action when you are at the concessions or walking to the can. Regarding washrooms, I have never been to a sold out stadium with no line ups - bravo. My wife went to the women's at half time - no line up - unheard of. Had about 5 beers and a beef on a bun and never lined up, although I did see line ups at times. Highly recommend the beef on a bun. It has a separate concession with no line up and was very good.

The sunken bowl makes ingress and egress a snap. The place had an NFL stadium feel about it. Obviously way better than Rogers Centre and I would say better than Commonwealth and BC Place, especially when they are not sold out, which is always.

IGF is definitely louder than Mosaic, even when Mosaic has 45,000 fans like at the LDC. Kudos to the Bomber fans who cheered like crazy right from the intros.

How was the cruise? What food did they serve? I was considering taking the boat (especially since I live right at the Alexander Docks) but they never got back to me when I emailed asking about the menu.

Good for you for giving props to the Winnipeg football experience Stormer. It is good to view this place through the eyes of an outsider with no vested interest. It blows my mind when I read posts from Winnipegers that complain about the place.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the amenities and the experience (except for the final score of course). Good luck to your team for the rest of the season! And I am looking forward to enjoying a game in your new stadium in 4 years.

Yes, really nice to hear you had a good time Stormer! Despite the score! I still haven't made it on the boat yet, but good to hear it was enjoyable.

Despite all the flaws that have been nitpicked, I can't agree more on the usability of the stadium. I never wait in line for anything, enjoy the atmosphere, and just have a good time overall.

Stormer, nice to hear a take on the new stadium from an outsider. Hope Regina builds a bit bigger stadium (34-38K) pretty sure they will always fill it.

One thing I did notice was the Saskatchewan contingent seemed to be smaller this year. There were some pockets of green in the end zones. But other than that they seemed vary sparse. Maybe due to the level of play that has taken over the CFL this year (or lack there of).

They had I think four items you could order, all deep fried. Chicken wings, chicken strips, shrimp basket and I forget the fourth. All served with fries for about $10. Nothing very exciting. Stadium had better food.

Here's a pic of an avid Bomber fan flashing the firefighters on the WFD rescue boat.

So I finally went to the new stadium yesterday, all thanks to my cousin who had tickets for the game. I had great seats too, sitting at section 131 in the lower bowl area on the west side.

I have to say, way better than our old digs, and very loud! The experience was really awesome, and being there in person yesterday, with the Bombers finally winning at home was just a blast! I felt that we are like a bigger city than we were before, especially in a brand new shiny stadium like Iggy Field.

$350K found to revamp inferior press box
By: Bartley Kive

On Wednesday, Winnipeg Football Club interim president and CEO Wade Miller said in a statement the Bombers are in the midst of finalizing the details of a corporate sponsorship deal that would cover the $350,000 cost of upgrading the press box.

The deal on the table would not require funds to be redirected from any of the football club's existing revenue streams. "The Winnipeg Football Club is still on target to meet its financial obligations," Miller said in a statement.

Comments and Thought's? I wonder if any one will even norice this post?
