Two Wal-Mart Supercents are now open in Halifax, HSC and Bayers Lake. The Dartmouth Crossing one isn't open yet but will be 200,000 sq.ft. when it opens

Having a Spencer's Gifts in Champlain would be kinda neat, however, as was evidenced by previous attempts, novelty/joke stores don't fare too well around here. Not sure why (maybe too many prudes get offended by the subject matter?) but they don't seem to last too long.

I actually like Spencer's based on what I've seen in their American stores. It's not always crass & explicit material. They've often got hard to find collector items (Todd McFarlane figures, TV & Music-related gift items, etc) and some unique & funny gag items.

Would be fun to have one here in Moncton, but I don't foresee it occurring anytime soon.

Spencer's is opening in both SJ and Halifax so it is indeed possible that they might open here too.

Wasn't there a Spencers Gifts in Champlain place in the 70s or early 80s i seem to recall one there. I know there never was on PEI and because i was born in Moncton we were there quite often and it is what i remember as well as the large children's blocks and the play area near where Sobeys is now.

We did have an It Store at Champlain Place when I first moved to Moncton. That's probably what you're remembering......

You could also be thinking about Marks and Spencers which was an European chain which was a clothing/grocery store outside of Sears up until around 1985.

Thanks for the 2 replies i think it is a combination of both answers. It was probably the It store in particular but i certainly recall the Marks & Spencer near Sears as well in addition i recall the Acadian bookstore which was near Sears as well. It is kind of fun trying to recall the stores which were once in the Mall.

Target might open sooner rather than later. Early November maybe? The progress at Marshalls is steady, I can see it opening before 2014.

What's the hold-up at the Walmart on Plaza Blvd? Slow, slow pace, is the Mapleton Center disease contagious?
Poor Mapleton Center such an easy punching bag for all of us.

I'm not sure whats going on with Walmart, I know there are also renovating the inside of the store also, moving a lot around, they are adding a Bakery, Deli, Meat and Seafood departments, so there is a lot of electrical work to do.. but i'm not sure...

I feel like the Mapleton Centre wouldn't be so bad if it was owned by a legit real estate company like Plaza Corp, RioCan, Crombie etc.

The Moncton Target store is pretty much finished, except for exterior signage and interior fixtures. If they put their minds to it, it probably wouldn't take much more than a couple of weeks to finish everything off.......
The exterior building signage is up at Target. One worker told me opening November 1st. Not sure how reliabe the construction worker is.

One worker at Wal-Mart said that it wouldn't be done before January! (Wow)

Also, that they are re-tiling the 'entire' floor in the whole place which requires moving 'everything' to take up tile and put it back down and reorganize again.

Moncton Target Store Signage

Less than two months to opening day. Pretty much everything is done except for interior fit-up. You can see a separate sign for the in store pharmacy and also a little green Starbucks sign in the front window.

This will of course be Moncton's fifth Starbucks........

That isn't a big deal at all. All the aisles are able to be picked up by pallet jacks and moved in one big piece.

I've seen crews rearrange an entire grocery store's worth of aisles in a single night.

It's about time, because both stores (Moncton & especially Dieppe) were dirty, worn-out and cluttered. Good thing they are renovating. The new Target stores were all going to be new, bright and clean, Walmart did not have any other choice.

Mode Choc opens at the Mapleton Centre this weekend.

The coverings have come off the facade of Marshall's at the Northwest Centre. Looks very nice! I agree with OUIR@random, I wonder if Marshall's isn't trying for a pre Christmas opening too......
