Now that I think about it, this building was one of those things that really got me interested in urban dynamics in the first place, which eventually led me to city planning.

Suffice it to say, it's pretty awesome to see that there's finally going to be an active use for this building again.

Looks like they've started prep for those 'luxury townhouses' or whatever on Piedmont. Hope they have good soundproofing with Blakes' entrance being right there.

They probably won't and I bet a bunch of NIMBYists will move in and completely disregard the fact that the bar preceded them when making continual noise complaints to the Midtown Alliance and APD...isn't that the way it always works?

That hotel is awesome news! Isn't there another one planned just north of there?

Downtown is starting to get a critical mass of major construction going--that's great to see.

It sure is, and I have a feeling more big announcements are coming. Even with what's already in the pipeline, the city skyline is going to be quite busy with cranes come next summer! Things are starting to cook in ATL!

All of this is wonderful news for Downtown. With Buckhead & Midtown "cooking" for a while now, it was just a matter of time before it spread to the City Center.

Just wait until the streetcar is completed next year. I have a feeling we will all be very pleasantly surprised at what a huge catalyst that will be...

Oh, man! I hope not. Do you have any info you can divulge without breaching anything?

Please tell me it's not on the east side of Piedmont just north of the creek where the cool Publix mixed-use building was proposed pre-recession.

That open land has so much more potential.

Either Bisnow or the Atlanta Business Chronicle reported that it would actually be where the old Intown Suites is at Piedmont Circle and Piedmont Rd. It's that rundown motel that backs up to the Buford Highway Connector. The address is 1944 Piedmont Circle. I might get banned from here for saying this, but essentially anything, including a Walmart, would be a major improvement over the current structure.

Very interesting! That is a very tight site for a Walmart. It would have to have underground parking, and would probably also have to be multi-level.

The traffic around there would be constant gridlock, though. And I agree, that motel is hideous.

There's no way that parcel can accommodate a normal sized Walmart.

Exactly. It would have to be 2-3 levels AND have underground parking. I can't see them willing to foot the bill for that.

I have to admit I fall into the camp that is extremely biased against them. I know too much about their business practices, unfortunately.

I have not been in one for over 20 years, I'm a Target guy.
