Oh wow the Women's Hospital is looking really cool! Will have to check it out next time I'm in the Peg

A friend of mine managed the excavation of that site, and he always talked about how awesome it would turn out. Nice to see it going up. Can't wait to see the finished product. Is the CancerCare building starting soon too? Or is that already underway?

Whatever renders and details Fortress reveals on thier proposal tomorrow, It's hard not to get a little excited about it? No matter how good thier PR machine is, this is what this forum is all about. I'm curious on the amount of posts tomorrow ,pictures posted whether your skeptical in what they may bring here in general, or believe this will be an iconic development for Winnipeg.

Anybody not going to check out this thread tomorrow? I doubt it, should be fun. We shall see.

I agree. These are fun times! I started following this board because of Glasshouse and enjoy hearing about what's happening or what could happen. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy whatever comes from tomorrow.

I took a quick snap shot of our new tallest. Sorry, it's not the greatest, but I didn't want to get yelled at from the workers putting the tarp over it. You'll all see a better picture tomorrow I'm sure.

CancerCare's expansion is still in the planning stages, but is definitely going to happen, mainly because the existing structure is bursting at the seams. There are some talks underway that might see the project rolled up with some other users. In the end, the new building could become even bigger than initially envisioned.

So looks like they will have a naming contest. Appears that view is from the southeast ish? Tower to be on the Graham/Garry corner? Looks like MTS Centre to the left.

I'm already a tad disappointed. ... We currently live at the Ashdown and the only thing that would entice us to move was if there were balconies. From what I can tell, there's no balconies. Other than that, very excited

Despite my cynicism about this project's chances, I have to admit that is a pretty sexy rendering... it looks taller than 201 Portage in that view.

If it actually materializes, the Fortress building would have the potential to turn around one of the deadest dead zones in downtown Winnipeg.

There could be some balconies. It looks like there's some indentations where the dark spots are. Maybe just the lighting. Also looks like the facade extends all the way to the top of the top hat, which looks kinda cool. I dunno, you were there so I'll take you word!

Hard to tell from the picture (good work by the way) but it looks black - which I loooove and has some type of architectural roof element - which Winnipeg is sorely lacking. I will of course reserve judgement until I see it up close tomorrow but seems interesting enough.............that podium looks huge.

So from my quick look at the photo:

30 storey tower from podium to base of top hat.
Maybe 3 more floors within the top hat? Some kind of fancy penthouse.
7-8 storey podium (also looks like the podium matches what was shown on their handout form a couple months back).

So right around 40 storeys. Also that top hat is pretty tall, which adds to the height.

This story in the Sun (I know) today talking about how spires, etc. inflate the heights of buildings.

http://www.winnipegsun.com/2013/09/05/un...as-the-worlds-vainest-skyscrapers-report

"The building with the largest vanity height is the 828-meter Burj Khalifa in Dubai, of which 29% or 244 meters is unusable - which would rank on its own as the 11th tallest building in Europe, the CTBUH said."

244m of unusable space is crazy talk.

....oh, I also like that they have shown the Alt Hotel and Glasshouse in the background.

Again hard to tell from the picture but I geeked out and counted 35 storeys above the podium + the triangle hat + the big ass podium which appears to be double floor heights. We could be pushing 500 ft.

I am also interested to see what that smaller 1 or 2 storey building is on the west side on Smith St. It all adds to the streetscape, right?

Even if this doesn't become our new tallest ... COUNT ME IN!
But I also counted 30ish floors in the tower + 4 regular and 3(?) double height floors leads me to believe this will be very tall (for winnipeg at least). It will be nice to see high quality renderings.
Glasshouse and ALT is also a nice touch

Don't get too excited. I just walked by the sign too, and the background is not Winnipeg. Makes me think this is just an idea from Fortress of what might go there.

we will have to wait and see

personally i think they would wait until tomorrow to reveal anything.. maybe that picture is just a random tower in some city.
