There's a proposal for an 8 story 48 unit mixed use building for 209-211 Queen Street. Ground floor has space for retail and a restaurant: http://www.fredericton.ca/en/citygovernment/resources/B3.pdf

Apartment building on the corner of Burns and Brookside: http://www.fredericton.ca/en/citygovernment/resources/C1.pdf

Commercial building on Woodside Lane: http://www.fredericton.ca/en/citygovernment/resources/C3.pdf

8 residential lots on MacLaren/McEvoy: http://www.fredericton.ca/en/citygovernment/resources/C6.pdf

So the building on Queen St. will be by the other new complex thus filling in the parking lot next door?

It is in a much better place! The passengers were stuck in the old terminal because it was near nothing of interest, except Tim Hortons, at the top of a very steep hill. This place puts them pretty much downtown and close to food, haha.

Yeah it's a much better location; and will help keep that corner busy. And with Quiznos, 2 pizza places and a Tim's in spitting distance, not to mention the Superstore, they should be very well serviced. It might even help get the old Jumbo Video space rented out now too.

It's a bit strange, the article seems to imply they are taking over the Enterprise lot AND the gas station lot; I thought the Ultramar was still there though. Did it disappear when I wasn't looking or what?

I didn't get from the story that they were taking over the gas station. I'm pretty sure it's still there.

Edit: Listening to the story, the owner of Maritime Bus says that the Ultramar is still there.

That proposed building on Queen St. is a major development. That is great to see and it seems development in that area is happening fast. Nice to see balance between East and West End downtown development. More office/residential spaces on that end of town should spur further retail/service opportunities. I dream of someone opening a nice steakhouse downtown again.

I probably just misread a line:

Quote:
The location at Smythe and Dundonald has previously been home to a gasoline station and to a car rental company.
I didn't think the Enterprise building was also a gas station too, but that was probably before my time. The way I read that line, is they were grabbing both that and the Ultramar to have room.

Is it official that it's really a Starbucks going in the old Quiznos building downtown? I was told that today but I can't seem to find anything certain on here.

I was told Starbucks wasn't going in because there was a law that they couldn't be close to second cup or something. But don't take that to the bank. I don't even know if it was the truth or not lol.

Don't understand this one. Why would Starbucks not be allowed to compete with Second Cup?.......unless they are owned by the same company. Your source may be misinformed. It would be analogous to Target not allowed to set up in close proximity to Walmart!

The Art Gallery will be getting a nice expansion as well as some more interactive pieces.

I like the idea of a cafe going in there, it will allow people to linger longer in the gallery.

I'll be interested to see how this expansion unfolds; things are pretty tight with the trail there as is.
