The Icon was never proposed to be over 200 metres so we didn't "lose" it. 200 metres is a nice psychological cutoff, but losing 9 metres isn't a huge deal. I'm far more concerned with the design, given that this firm doesn't seem to be able to execute very well.

^ Yeah that's true. Quality over quantity. Let's hope they put together a decent product. I imagine both projects are at least 1.5 to 2 years away from starting construction, given the market.

Avoiding excessive sun exposure is standard practice for many people these days, myself included.

Haven't burst out in flames yet when exposed, though perhaps its only a matter of time for us shade seekers??

Yeah, those UVs will definitely age a person. I always use plenty of sun block (spf 45 baby!) but I just find the winters too dark and cloudy not to soak up as much sun as I can in the summer.

The +15 and +30 are being taken down at the site of Brookfield Place in anticipation for the demolition of Bow Valley Parkade. The parkade is the site of the west tower which will be 178 meters tall. The site of the east tower, which will be 247 meters, is already cleared. Construction of the east tower is imminent, possibly within a couple of weeks.

Depending on how long One Bloor takes until completion, or how long it takes for those mega projects to get going, Brookfield Place could easily be in the number #1 spot on the Ten Tallest Constructors list in the next 3 and a half years or so.

So apparently An application for 171 front has been resubmitted to the city, but this time it contains a 46 story office building. (It was 36 in the previous application) this could easily put it at over 200m considering the akward relationship the base has with union station. (The first office floors wouldn't start until it is already 20-30 meters up as they have to build on top of the skywalk)

That building could begin construction right away, considering all it will be doing is holding computer servers/cisco switches/routers and tech support staff which will be outsourced to major corporations in the core. And outsourced at ridiculous expensive rates I might add.

I was under the impression that only the existing base building would remain a server hub and that the additional tower floors would be new office space.

Well this is certainly good news. A 46 story office tower would be great - looking forward to more details on this one.

Commercial is making a comeback, ever so slightly in Toronto's core it would appear. All these condos and apartments going up eventually translate into office demand

Let's see if the quantity of commercial construction gains momentum as the residential market cools further.

That is kind of a cool dynamic, because here, we are hoping for the opposite. Hoping that our office boom will translate into a prolonged residential boom.

Partial demolition, with about 3/4 retained. They originally wanted to rip the entire thing down and reconstruct it with more modern glass and as a square, and stick the office building on top of the westernmost portion, but now I have a feeling that they will only be tearing down the portion required for the office building. Also, E condos has filed for its construction permit.
