I was out for a drive to check out Liberty Gateway in person and I noticed that Biaggis on the SE corner of Gateway, the NW corner of 400 W and 200 S has closed. This would be a prime location for Gateway to finally make a move as part destination (Planetarium, Children's Museum and Movie theater) and part neighborhood retail. The former Biaggis location would be ideal for either a small grocery store, (have Smith, or Fresh Market open up a smaller concept there) or a Drug Store (the closest Walgreens is 4th S and 5th E and the closest Rite Aide is Main and 1st S.)
While I don't have the numbers, I would suspect that the population would be just about right, and only getting bigger, to support one of those two concepts. With all the Gateway Apartments and Condos, along with Liberty Gateway opening soon, combined with the existing and soon to completed condos at Pioneer Park there seems to be a decent amount of residential in the area, not to mention those in town staying at the Homewood Suites at Pioneer Park and the soon to be completed ESA hotel, it seems to be a no brainer to me. Then again that's just my opinion. The large amount of office space at Gateway would also do wonders at supporting a drug store. While the total office space pales in comparison to that on Main near Rite Aide, there is still a fair amount that would stop in on lunch and breaks.

agreed, the Biaggis spot would be ideal for some sort of grocery. I wonder if there's some way to get that across to the Gateway management...
Also, I'm loving the pics above.
