So of the 7 projects the article lists as not yet started, which are the most likely to proceed? Most likely to never come to fruition?

D condos is an almost certainty I think.

My guess list for chances of happening from greatest to lowest would be:

D Condos
Glasshouse
W-hotel
So-Po
Fortress
Pumphouse

D condos and Glasshouse will probably get built. Same with project W. I think SoPo and the fortress project will probably both happen, but on smaller scales than what has currently been proposed.
The pump house project... that seems like a long shot

Kirkor is the architect. Renderings revealed next Friday. I personally look forward to being there. I'm optimistic this project will happen. People at Fortress have been stand up in my conversations with them.

I was told Dcondo is 100% a go. Sales have now been pegged at 50%, so that's promising. Also the new guy, scoots82, was saying excavation to start in January.

Glasshouse was also to start sometime in the new year from what I've heard. But hasn't been much news on that front recently.

W-hotel also seems like it should be a go. They've been waiting for decades for the right proposal, done the caisson testing, haven't said a peep publicly on it, seem to have a hotelier. Sounds promising.

SoPo although still conceptual, must happen. When and what will be built are still the biggest question?

This lot will not sit empty. It can't. It's integral in the SHED redevelopment. Will it be 2 medium sized towers? Maybe, 2 and one smaller? Questions for those involved and familiar with this project/and involved in the industry.

I was just going to post your convo from Twitter. I was under the impression Kirkor was the architect as well. Maybe TV has some inside knowledge.

This sounds positive, from someone who has had talks with the development team as you say. Will the needed sales/buisness partners be embraced by the community and will it come to fruition is the biggest part of the debate. It still, not to be pessimistic, needs to clear many hurdles. Hoping for the best.

Bartly also forgot to mention Bond Tower and the RBC Convention Centre hotel at Carlton and York. So, that's 11 highrises. I still would say only 10 because SoPo was just medium density. I hate when 12< stories is considered a "Tower" .

I have good feelings about the pumphouse, if they get their heights. It's going to be rentals, so pre-sales won't matter. I think the dead ones would be Bond and SoPo.

Bond does seem pretty dead. It would be cool if it was built, the area between portage/main and the forks is such a deadzone of parking and misery. But the Bond tower always came across as a fairly un-serious proposal, more of a "wouldn't this be neat" instead of "were going to do this".

Apparently things are really starting to look promising for Bond Tower. At 11 storeys though it wont fit your parameters of a tower either.....I agree that a "Tower" should be in the 12-15 storey range and up. It is none the less a very significant building in an extremely prominent location.

don't believe everything you read on twitter.

My guess is they will announce that they purchased the land.....any images will be pretend...something cut and pasted from somewhere else likely.

my money is they will not show anything....they have not even really started the process beyond due diligence on the land.

I find it odd that the adjacent vacant lot was never acquired for the Bond Tower development.

I was always under the impression, that a tower, or maybe a better term would be tall building, was dependent on the surrounding buildings? ie: If a structure was 80M, as the # of floors are not always an accurate measure, floor to ceiling, and the surrounding buildings in the area were all 50-70M even if if they were 9 flrs 10 flrs..etc..that the 80M blg even at 10 flrs. for example would be considered a tower?

If the bldg. was located in a smaller urban setting where 11-12 flrs or 80M plus was one of the tallest structures and towered above the surrounding buildings. Is this not a tower? In a perspective point of view?

Curious what architects and others think?

Official definitions:
Oxford: a tall narrow building, either free-standing or forming part of a building such as a church or castle:

Merriam-Webster: a building or structure typically higher than its diameter and high relative to its surroundings that may stand apart (as a campanile) or be attached (as a church belfry) to a larger structure and that may be fully walled in or of skeleton framework (as an observation or transmission tower)

I'm not sure about the relative nature definiton. Would the Richardson building not be a tower if it was located in Manhattan?

"Fortress" was the one I was trying to remember - Sept. 6th hey - hope it moves forward.
