You're right; the mature trees really do add nicely to the library.
As far as the new landscaping goes...I have no idea how it'll end up. If it resembles the graphics provided in the proposal documents, it should look alright.
The last municipal landscaping disaster I've seen was in the City of Dieppe, last year or the year before, as they planted Sugar Maples, Red Maples (etc.) along Paul Street, which feeds traffic to the Champlain shopping district, as well as their centre-ville. Anyway: roughly half of the trees have died and had to be replaced, with trees that are now showing die-back like the previous crop.
