Oh and in other "Gateway" related news those this may be more suited for the transit discussion, came across:

http://developers.surrey.ca/AMANDA5/eNtraprise/DInquiry/index_fromgis.jsp?ProjectNumber=13-189

New project put up on Surrey, no details yet, but it is at the corner of 104th and 156th (the HOV on/off ramp road) and I recall the big argument about the new rapid bus not stopping in Surrey because there was supposed to be a commercial development built where the bus would stop in this exact spot. Looks to me like someone may actually be going forward with a development there now. 10600 sq meters is about 114,000 square feet so I'd say your standard Save-on, Safeway size give or take.

I've had occasional bad experiences with transit, but let it be as something that has to be dealt with. This is probably due to the fact that I don't have a car...

But really, transit is never perfect. There's bound to be a few problems every now and then.

Sadly, it seems that TransLink has decided to take the route of least resistance, and has glossed over the various issues that include (but are not limited to)
- station and vehicle cleanliness (needs improvement across the board)
- driver performance (sudden braking and/or acceleration)
- enforcement of fares (lacking on buses, less so on SkyTrain)
- enforcement of good etiquette (totally lacking in general, although I'm unsure if anything can be done about this societal issue)

If the above can be improved, I'm pretty sure that transit in Vancouver will surely look and feel more comparable to riding one's own car.

That's pretty much the rule for taking buses: you stand by the pole if you want to get on the approaching bus, or you sit on the bench/away from the pole if you don't want to get on the approaching bus. Also, if you got stuck sitting near people who made you uncomfortable, why didn't you move to another side of the bus?

What world do you live in??? The Vancouver transit system is the pinnacle of cleanliness for the most part. Compare it to SF BART where if you don't pass a pile of human waste in a day your lucky... we have it gold here. It's just a few newspapers at best.

I saw a show about Donald Trump's business jet (a converted 757) that revealed what an obsessive neat freak he is. Then I watched "You've been Trumped" about his takeover of land in Scotland for a golf course. He's tried to have houses adjacent to his land appropriated so he can tear them down, and also tried to kill an offshore wind turbine project - both because he thinks they ruin the view from his golf course.

Some people are like that, I guess - just can't stand the thought of mixing with the hoi poloi. But I really don't have any sympathy for them. For me it just comes off as being spoiled rotten.

It looks like the rest of the eastbound Mary Hill Bypass connection from Highway 1 has been paved.

A few people that I know HAVE to utilize the same transit system because they are not able to make the payments to purchase a car, pay insurance, and pay for gas, parking, etc. And transit takes a couple of additional hours out of their day. Must suck big time.

I wouldn`t personally want to take transit ever again in my life!!! And I am very serious in that regard.

And I seem to have kinship with this somewhat similar experience with transit by this Metro Vancouver blogger:

http://lailayuile.com/2013/08/02/surrey-...onder-why-more-people-dont-take-transit/
To each there own, but I'm sure you've had similarly aggravating experiences driving.

I do both transit and drive, so I know what you are talking about when you mention smelly people and loud people on transit. There are a lot of things wrong with transit.

But I've also been stuck in horrible traffic and made late. I've been cut off by ignorant assholes. I've had people not be courteous and change lanes right in front of me without signalling. I see people breaking laws talking no their cell phones. People in the passing lane drive slower than people in the travel lane. People parking in no stopping areas (like taxis on Dunsmuir downtown where it is only 2 lanes to begin with). People blocking lanes because they are making illegal left turns. Not being able to find a parking spot, or seeing people parking in 2. And so. much. more.

And that's just the annoying things, not to mention almost being in accidents, and actually being in accidents in the past, which can be quite serious (deathly so).

So you might focus on some bad experiences that spoil transit for you, but I've had plenty of bad experiences driving, that if I focused on them like you do on smelly people on transit, I would probably stop driving.

Weird thing for me is aggressive drivers or transit riders don't annoy me that much. What does annoy me is slow and stupid people who act like they are gods gift from heaven. They live in a bubble and don't realize their stupid actions impact others. I'm all for driving safely, but when someone is driving so safely as to impact traffic around them in a negative way. Then their safe driving actually become unsafe.

I remember hearing about a radio host maybe in Texas who admitted on air that he drove on the left lane at the speed limit on purpose to impede fellow drivers from being able to speed. He received many angry phone calls and letters from that confession. lol.

I don't care anymore. If people want to drive on whichever lane they want, I will overtake them on any lane I want.

Except for those cases where you get two or three idiots who think it is fun to drive side by side without passing each other at all.

I'm surprised the radio host in Texas did not get shot off the road.

The electronic message boards on highway 1 east of the Port Mann today were warning of a SFPR closure this weekend. I'm guessing this is related to the demolition of the old bridge.

Yup - one of the other forummers thought the asphalt would be removed on the section directly above SFPR.

The off/onramps at Willingdon will be one step closer to their final alignments on Monday thanks to some work being done over the weekend. Crews will move traffic off the current westbound on/off ramps and onto the new ramps on the west side of the overpass.

Thanks for the heads up! I wonder if this means they'll be opening the full new width of the overpass? I've been waiting for that as it'll mean that there will finally be a decent amount of space for the bike lane on the east side of the overpass.

Is finishing the east facing on/off ramps at 202nd st, going to be finished as part of this project, or are they going to be a future project?
They are easily 75-80% finished, then they stopped working on them about 6 months ago.

Future project - they'll be done at a later date when the 216 Street interchange is complete. No date that I'm aware of. I believe the HOV lanes are to be extended further east at that point too, although I wouldn't be surprised to see a Highway 1 improvement project right through to Abbbotsford in the next 5-10 years.

I wish they'd complete these ramps in the interim and made the general purpose, and convert over to HOV at later date.. Personally, getting to Carvolth from WB Highway 1 is quite difficult, and a ramp would easily save several minutes of travel getting to the exchange to connect to the #555.

Listened to the radio, absolutely no traffic on the Mary Hill Bypass westbound.
