All that will change with ACNE (which should be starting build-out in Sept btw), ZARA & Urban Outfitters (already U/C) & the new spot Face Off opening across from ACNE also the upcoming Ace Hotel will bring more various (read: interesting) types to DTLA. Mark my words: ACNE & ZARA alone will be the ultimate game changers for DTLA retail scene!! I cannot wait for more announcements shortly! Exciting times!

Bottega is a small exception. I'll give you that.

But otherwise yeah, I totally stand by my statement.

What other parts of DTLA? Your sentence sounds contradictory.

God, I'm so excited for Acne to open up. And DT so has hot girls. I've seen a ton around the historic core, and especially Little Tokyo. Nothing better than some japanese ladies.

So I look up and see a bunch of spring breaker types in swim suits on the many balconies of a hard rock cafe hotel above me screaming out 'woo!! yeah!!' and that was when I decided I needed to go back to LA)
Theres nothing wrong with the Gaslamp District, you probably just dont have a taste for that part of the hood.. what i love about that place is that its not only filled with bars, clubs and lounges for the "spring breakers" ... but the district also has mom and pop shops, art galleries, upscale restaurants, cafes, great hotels and retail.... theres something there for everybody. sure beats whats going on on Broadway thats for sure You go there and not only do you see the "spring breakers" that u mentioned.. but you also see old couples and families with their children

The gaslamp would be dead if the "system" didn't work.. nobody would wanna go there... but tourists and locals, both downtowners and suburbanites, flock and enjoy the area. Not trying to get into a city vs city here but come on. I love both LA and SD if old time residents and party animals can coexist in DTSD... i don't see why DTLA can't

My bad, I meant other parts of LA. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hey peeps - what's going on around 11th and Hill? I see a big construction pit.

Sorry, I was unable to take a photo, but hopefully somebody knows what I'm referring to.

I believe you're referring to the pit behind Herald Examiner. It's been a pit for a while, and unfortunately nothing at all is happening anytime soon.

The Hearst Company actually applied for (and received) extensions with City Planning a little over one year ago. That's for both the 24 story tower at 11th/Hill and the 37 story tower at 12th/Broadway.

I believe they have until summer of 2015 to break ground.

Surprised those projects are still kicking around. I wonder if the original designs are still in use...

That's an odd that they are building that tall on the fringes on south park while the prime locations get 7 stories.

I actually prefer a little bit of space among the taller towers. Allows for light everywhere, better views, more variety to different parts of DTLA, and in a way makes the neighborhood's footprint seem larger.

+1 for DTLA and the Arts District. From Brigham Yen's blog:

Guerilla Atelier Brings Lux Designer Fashion to Arts District in Downtown LA

What started out as a pop-up store in the Arts District testing the downtown market, Guerilla Atelier has done so well, it is now here to stay permanently

This is for the update tomorrow guys. I'm planning on taking Metrolink. One of you guys were telling me there was a method of getting a special or something that allows you to ride the subways all day. Can someone fill me in on that so i don't have to waste my time tomorrow?

Mojeda, your Metrolink ticket will give you unlimited free rides on Metro Rail for the day. To my knowledge, all Metrolink tickets are TAP enabled, so when you get to the subway entrances, just tap your ticket on the turnstile reader (Metrolink has some info on this here). I haven't done a Metrolink to Metro transfer myself, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

A new cultural center headquarters for the SoCal Teo-Chew Association will be starting construction in Chinatown next door to the Jia Apartments.

The gate looks great......very authentic. Chinatown LA is really coming together. Now if only there were some Chinese living there.
