Not a canyon effect, but a cliff effect. Over 600 ft. high. It is like looking at Stawamus Chief from Squamish, but way better in the eyes of skyscraper nerds. As for the south, Stephen Avenue will still get the same sunbathing treatment as always.

Those two and the Hydro Building in Winnipeg would be the nicest built since Scotia Place.

Stephen ave will be blasted by sun rays and sun reflections. It's going to be like an oven lol!

I always thought Scotia Plaza was one of the nicest buildings in NA. Top 10 at least.

That thing in Winnipeg? It's a rounding error, at best.

I really like the Hydro building. I don't like the massing of it (too bulky for its height), but the materials and interior are very nice.

Yeah, but nicest since Scotia Plaza (I presume they're talking Toronto)? It is to laugh.

One of the three nicest since Scotia Plaza, he said. Well, I guess one of the two nicest since Scotia Plaza, since Brookfield Place is not built yet.

There have no been many office buildings constructed since Scotia Plaza though, so it is not hard to imagine that it could be one of the top contenders. However, upon further reflection, I would place Eighth Avenue Place and Le 1000 rue de la Gauchetière ahead of it.

Yes, we are talking about the one in Toronto, as there is no other high-rise tower on the planet called "Scotia Plaza"

I don't care for the Hydro building in Winnipeg, yeah it has nice materials, but the building is so freaking short and fat, it's ridiculous. I thought the Bow was wide, but the Hydro building looks like someone took the Bow and made it shorter and fatter.

You're right Chadillac, there haven't really been many new office buildings that have stood out in the last 20 years. Lots of good residential towers, but little in the way of office buildings. The Bow and EAP are probably the two nicest, or at least 2 of the three nicest.

Just from a little digging, the BP for Brookfield is on hold until some additional plans regarding the excavation/shoring side of things are required before the partial permit can be issued for this part of the construction

Do you think the September start date will be pushed back?

Well from what I can tell, the BP was applied for on July 25th but the City replied August 2nd with those comments ... There isn't substantial information that needs revision, looks like minor tweaks ... Can't see it being an issue

Never understood all the love for Scotia Plaza. It is a re-factored Suncor Energy Center. It's not bad, just kind of bland. Of the TO bank towers, Royal is the personal favorite. I watched Scotia finishing construction when I worked at the TD Bank complex the summer of 1988.

The basic shape isn't that exciting, but it's the detailing that makes it a winner in my book, particularly at the top.

Hope they mean early September. We really need a big one like this to keep things exciting. Only towers that have started this summer are Eau-Claire and Aura2. While both pretty well designed, nothing to really get excited about. Looks like 3 Eau-Claire, Vogue, 6th and 10th, City Centre 2 are all in hibernation mode!

Spring: Of course their in sleeper mode! That's the way this stuff usually works. A lot of the ones you want to see get built usually get put on hold. When too many projects get proposed all at once it seems (especially the taller/larger ones), some won't get built at all! Might have to wait 2-3 years. Damn!

We seriously need buildings like 3EC and City Centre II though. Two mixed-use buildings over 160 meters tall could do wonders for this city, especially in the Eau Claire area.
