Poor K-W.

I think the skyline there is destined to become more dense with the approval for the LRT.

Calgary will soon drop below Burnaby as EAP II is getting close to Completion. Calgary City Centre will become the city's tallest u/c at 161m and 36 Floors.

But then you'll get number 2 back again when Brookfield Place Starts, and after that you'll have the number 2/or 1 slot for at least the next 4 years. Once One Bloor has been completed, I don't think there will be a Toronto project on the go that will top it.

When was the hight reduced to 161 meters? Also, Brookfield Place will be UC before EAP is completed most likely.

True. It should be started, or at least in excavation by then. I don't know when the height got changed....I just took it from the construction thread, so it's possible it might be the wrong height.

I always thought it was 170, that's what it is listed at in the database, and what I have always heard except in the title of that thread. However, that title also has other incorrect information, such as it being listed on the thread as 36 floors when it is 37. However, the thread was made (and probably titled) back in its original design, back in 2006, that could be where the discrepancy lies.

It could actually be 170m. I just noticed that I was the one who created the thread in the highrise construction section, but don't recall where I got the height from at that time...

If the database says 170m that's probably the right one.

It's inevitable. Waterloo has a bunch of towers in the 15-25 storey range either recently completed, under construction, or planned. In Kitchener, construction of the One Victoria condo (19 storeys), kitty corner from the planned mulit-modal transportation hub in Kitchener, is just getting underway (less than a year since the developers bought the site!) and the Centre Block condo (17 storeys) beside City Hall is supposed to break ground in September. I don't know of anything, however, other than development on top of the transportation hub, that might take K-W over 25 stories in the next 5-10 years.

In the meantime, there's a lot of small infrastructure work beginning to be done in anticipation of the start of LRT construction next year. Exciting times!

So, KWC could end up looking like a mini-Ottawa?

No I don't think so - density will improve in both K and W (no idea re C), but the highrise buildings will be too scattered to give that kind of density, at least for a long time to come. I don't think there is any intention to develop a flat skyline, it's more the limited demand for taller structures in the core. That may begin to change in years to come.

Lots of the buildings on that list are topped out, including Calgary, Edmonton, and Kelowna. Regina's is actually completed and open. Being topped out doesn't make the difference.

TDC might not be counted because many people on this forum don't consider excavation actual construction, even though it is.

Off topic a tad, I noticed San Francisco is building their city's first supertall skyscraper, at 1070ft (326m) with another project approved at 802ft. Not bad, for them. It's nice to see the US finally start to move ahead economically after 4 very depressing years for the real estate market.
