Awesome video! I loved those gigantic interchanges, really wish we had some of those in BC, at least the new Cape Horn has a flavor of that (even if just a taste).

Those ones in Texas are probably among the most impressive.

Even for Americans, TX ramps/flyover ramps/viaducs and stacked interchanges are impressive. Can't imagine for canadians !

The biggest & largest interchange I've seen in my whole life is the marquette interchange in Milwaukee.

Texas Freeway's videos are some of the best road vids out there I think. He hasn't done anything new in a while though. I drove I-410 in Texas last fall, it's a really fun road to drive. I took some pictures of it here:

Getting way off topic, but if those HOV/HOT lanes existed here in Canada they would be awesome with dedicated exits and such. They would also eliminate the inability to pass slower drivers.

Also if the major interchanges on the 401 were stacked like that it would make for a much more efficient highway, but at the cost of what is considered to be urban blight. 4 and 5 level interchanges can be seen from quite a distance, especially if none of it is below ground. (400/407ETR is a 4 level stack but one level is depressed.)

The Katy is a fun drive. This is another great video.

One thing that wasn't well managed in Texas was their toll technologies. Toll Roads in Texas are generally managed at the county level, and each county has their own specific toll tag that only works with their own facilities. For example, a toll tag for the Katy Tollway in Houston is not interchangeable with the toll tag for the Sam Rayburn Tollway in DFW. To me, that's dumb.

The same thing is true in Quebec. A-25 and A-30 use unique tolling technology that aren't interchangeable. Both systems use a transponder that is actually a sticker that you apply to the inside of your windshield, so it is possible that in the future they could become interchangeable. It's certainly different technology than the 407 transponder.

If the Government of Ontario goes through with converting HOV lanes to HOT lanes (I know they have said that they will), I hope they do so using the same transponder as the 407. I have a 407 transponder, and I don't like the idea of leasing a second transponder for the occasional trip within a HOT lane in the future.

Multiple lanes would make a difference. If Ontario eventually goes with HOT, I think they would have to be 2-lanes to offer an adequate and attractive enough alternative.

Also noticed that the sections of HOV shown in the video have a merge lane. On HOVs in the GTA merging can be pretty hairy, especially when trying to exit the HOV lane to get into the general purpose lanes when they're very slow due to congestion. There is some width to get around cars that are trying to exit the HOV, but drivers don't always seem to know how to manage that. Houston's design seems a lot safer.

While its not actually a highway ramp, the ARL-UPX viaduct climbs 92ft over the 409's spaghetti junction at Pearson airport making for what looks like a 4 or 5 level stack;
