St. George Street

At the corner of St. George and Dominion is the new head office for Groupe Le Bouthillier Inc.

Great news for the neighbourhood

L'Occitane

L'occitane en Provence is usually a small store and it might be what is going in next to Aveda. There is still the space left from the Tell Us store, nothing happening there. I see that Mode Choc is advertising for jobs. They might be able to pick up some of the people that Tag had hired but then Target is also hiring. Lots of retail jobs advertised but most at minimum wage. There is also a Home Decor store in Dieppe (undisclosed name which I find curious) looking for Manager, Assistant Manager, sales people , etc. Wonder if that is Imagination Decor or something else. Can you tell I am job hunting? not in retail however.

They manage realestate and run mystudiomoncton. They've done some nice projects around town.

I guess it could be Imagination Decor... kinda odd that they'd need a whole new staff since it's not a new store, they just moved. It's also way too early for any potential store in the upcoming Champlain street redevelopment, but a Home Essence would be nice there.

Thierry LeBoutillier is into Real Estate and was a(is) a realtor. Now he is into renovating downtown older homes into executive apartments and is in the $1800/month market of tenants

Corner of St George and High Street

What's going on at the old Mr Transmission property at the cornet of High and St George? It's been vacant for years but all of a sudden, there are measured out markings painted on the ground that looks like it delineates the property line.
Anyone know if there is something new hapening here?

Great news for the neighbourhood
I would like to second Myles welcome to the forum. I look forward to more of your contributions.

I suggest you look at the different threads used by the Moncton forumers. Most of the threads are neighbourhood specific. The exceptions are the general Moncton Developments thread (the sticky at the top), the Downtown Events Centre thread and the Retail Thread. The retail thread is used for posts about things going on at Champlain Place, in the Power Centres or for retail news of city-wide importance. Some retail news belongs in the neighbourhood specific threads.

Your post had to do with a non-retail business setting up on St. George St. I would humbly suggest that it should have been posted in the [Moncton] Downtown Developments thread rather than the retail thread.

Cheers

Banana Republic is now open at the Mapleton Centre. It's pretty big. The layout is similar to several other BR Factory Stores.

Champlain: Laura Secord is moving to the small place next to Aveda. This will create an ample area with the relocation of F&P and Bizou which is going in the old Telus spot.

I wonder if L'occitane en Provence would be taking up all this space or if something else in on the way.

The l'Occitaine store at the HSC is pretty small, so no, I don't think so.

I'm touring Ontario right now and saw a l'Occitaine store at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto which was pretty large, but I imagine we will be emulating the HSC, and not the Yorkdale Mall.

Champlain Mall

At the end of the day, there are a few stores that I can't see surviving for much longer so I guess come January we will see a few more close their doors. Too many high end stores for this market. I have yet to see anybody purchase a Coach bag from that store. It is always empty. You can buy them in the US outlets for $75 or so and no sales here. I see Halifax is getting a Forever 21 which is cheap trendy clothes like H&M and that would make more sense than hi end stores. Moncton has never supported many hi end stores and with the economy being tight can't see them starting now. JMHO

Regardless of how busy the Coach store is, they will most certainly still be open for some time to come. I'm sure they signed a multi-year lease with CF.

I imagine that Coach is busier than you might think. There are times I walk by there that the place is empty and there are other times there are a number of customers inside shopping. Coach operates with pretty high margins so the sales volumes don't have to be that high to maintain profitability. Time will tell......

^ exactly, I've gone in there a couple times while working and the staff say the store is doing very well so far. They probably only need to sell a bag per week to break even!

The walmart is not expanding however I heard that they are removing the automobile bays to make space for the store.

Coach has been consistently going down market to try and increase revenue. They were successful initially in increasing revenue but have lost their core demographic. They are no longer considered a hi end retailer as others have suggested, their purses can be had for nothing in US based outlets.

I cant speak for the Moncton based location, but most analysts view Coach as a company that is in trouble as a direct result of this down market strategy. As a luxury brand, once your cachet is gone, it can be next to impossible to regain it. Just ask Jaguar.

There is some new construction going on at Mapleton Plaza at the end unit. Same building that has Bed, Bath and Beyond and Petsmart. I was there today and the doors were removed and work was going on inside.
