It still appears to me that the U.S. Bank tower still edges out 8th and Main as Boise's tallest. The roof height looks to be about 10 feet greater on US Bank. Even if the spire is greater, I can't see how they can claim that as part of a building height.

it's just a matter of which angle you look at it. from capitol blvd, the U.S. Bank looks taller because it's a block in front of the Zion, for instance.

the Zion's roof is 3 feet higher than the roof of the U.S. Bank building, so they're extremely close in height but the Zion is tad taller even without the spire.

the developer has said he wished he added many more floors to the building because of the high demand for office space. just four or five more floors would've made a big difference in making the Zion the visibly taller structure. as it is, we're basically stuck with two similar-height "tallest" buildings, likely for a long time to come.

here's an angle not often seen. it's taken from one of the foothills neighborhoods north of downtown looking south.

thanks to Architecture Buff for taking this!

I just looked through this thread for the first time.

I really like how you incorporate the older buildings with the new in your photographs Sawtooth.
It makes them doubly interesting.

still plenty of facade and street work to be done along with interior work, but the building's on track to open in early 2014.
