It is already busy for a small city......but I know what you mean. Look at all of the residential mid and high rise wrapping around the downtown core....

Phoenix Skyline. 3 times the Metropolitan population for Calgary. It kind of looks like Saskatoon or Regina or London Ontario......but no downtown residential.

Have you ever even been here? It's really good for a city wih a metro of only ~1.4 million. More comparable to an American city of 3 million or a Canadian city of 2 million than it is to any city of 1 million.

Tokyo is a city of 30 million people, and we can track all of their projects, New York is a city of 18 million and we can track what's going on there. Why can't we track Chinese cities with urban areas (not including the provincial farming lands of course) of less than half of that. Give me a break. As to Toronto, being on the bottom of any Chinese list, I really doubt that, as stated we can't get any verification of numbers that would put Toronto in a low spot, plus many chinese urban area are not built so tall as to even pass 100 meters, alot of Chinese cities are really just massive lowrise cores surrounded by massive amounts of farmland which are also counted towards their population count. I'll take the list that has been worked on by itoldyouso with his fellow Chinese forumers over speculation on unverified construction counts, anytime.
Dude, you do realize that the vast majority of Toronto skyscraper developments under construction are single tower developments with a couple reaching up to three towers. 75 does sound like a huge number however, not when your developments consistently include five to ten to fifteen to even 20 towers. The urban areas of Chinese cities are far more expansive to cover than Toronto which I actually do track and is not easy with a completion/ground breaking every five days. I wouldn't assume New York and Tokyo aren't under counted even though the former's crazy boom days were at the start of the last century.

I will extrapolate the data posted at motiancity.com and other sites over some list isaidso and his buddies cobbled together. As someone else stated, you honestly believe there are only 20 100 metre towers under construction in Chongqing?

We need to get the per capita list. ;-) It would be interesting to see.

Nope. And not on my shortlist for things to do. But I could see myself going out there one day, but only after I go to Vancouver which would be number 1 on my list at least for Canada.

Yes, there can. Okay in theory all of the U/C towers in Chinese cities could be counted. One, two, three, four, five... thousand! But outside of a government or industry agency who has access to the proper sources it's virtually impossible. I have entered in hundreds of only the tallest Chinese projects into the SkyscraperPage database and marked them with their map location. When going through the satellite imagery for cities like Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Wuhan, and Shanghai I have seen many many more towers in the 50-150 meter range that are being built, and there are dozens of other cities like this. I know of no website, Chinese or otherwise, that has a large amount of them catalogued, and certainly not to the extent that this website has for North America, where we have virtually every highrise building catalogued.

Yes, I do. It's urban area is the not the actual farmland that surrounds it, is less than Toronto and really probably closer to Montreal than anything else. I'm not counting it's province which is about the same size of Nevada and counted towards it city population count. Perhaps not, 20 towers under-construction, but likely not far off.

Here is an old list from a Chinese Forumers

This list is old. I'm asking for an updated list right now

I don't know why it is so difficult to understand that for some cities the number of U/C tower is not adequate. Just looking at the list made by isaidso, I can see that the number of U/C tower more than 100m is incorrect for Montréal, a city located in Canada... now imagine China...

You talk about a lot of places as if you've been there before.

I said based on the picture it looks like it could be bustling one day. Where did I say I've been there before and it's not bustling?

Just take it for what it is. A compliment. I've never been there, it's not on my to do list, but it looks good. Relax..

When it hit 2 million I'll be there so long as it doesn't happen after I die.

Likely not far off?!? Are you serious?!? The list is for 200+ metre non-residential towers. To put things in perspective ... none of Toronto's 75 under construction skyscrapers (by Emporis definition) would make this list!

Yeah, but this list is from 2006 when Chongquing was booming. Not so much now with the general slow down in China. I've asked the Chinese forumers to give me an updated list.
And my general view is that the residential towers are not going to come anywhere close to this. Likely in the 20-50 floor range at the most for the outlying areas from the core.

Dont you DARE go to Vancouver first. lol. At least appreciate Calgary first before going to Vancouver!!

Wherever you go, enjoy. You may need a tour guide so you can get a real tour and not just the typical tourist crap.

Yup ... but there is no pissing contest.

There is about as much chance of Toronto measuring up on such a list as one of the munchkins making it into the NBA.

There are tens of thousands of apartment buildings under construction in China at any given time. 100 meters and over probably accounts for at least %5. Just one development might encompass 20 or 30 buildings over 100 meters. That's one site in any given city and it won't make any list we're going to read about here.
