Interesting that when they anounced the closure of the Henday the North end was open and clear.

Have to give credit to the snow removal crews though. was out and about at 3am and no roads looked like they were touched. came into the office around 8:30 and all the main roads are cleared.

Didn't use the Henday but there were fireworks on the LRT yesterday, showering sparks on 111th street. Came home an hour late.

Henday work to close part of Sherwood Park Freeway
Bridge demolition forces weekend detour starting at 8 p.m. today

Jodie Sinnema
Edmonton Journal

Friday, June 14, 2013

Drivers using the Sherwood Park Freeway this weekend will be rerouted as a bridge is demolished to make way for a huge interchange for the northeast portion of the Anthony Henday Drive.

"This is the biggest disruption that the northeast Anthony Henday has seen so far," said Melinda Steenbergen, spokeswoman for Alberta Transportation.

"In order to safely demolish that bridge, they've closed off a wider area than they did for the Baseline (Road) bridge. This is a bigger project."

Starting at 8 p.m. Friday, Sherwood Park Freeway will be closed for the weekend from 34th Street to Sherwood Drive, also called Broadmoor Boulevard. The westbound portion of the freeway bridge will be demolished to make way for a much larger interchange for the Anthony Henday. The eastbound portion is set to reopen after the work is completed by 6 a.m. Monday. The eastbound bridge will accommodate four lanes of traffic, two going each way...

Flood delays work on Henday bridge
Engineers fear potential damage to concrete supports

Otiena Ellwand
Edmonton Journal

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

Construction on the northeast leg of Anthony Henday Drive in Edmonton has been delayed a couple of weeks or more after river water breached the site's berm Sunday.

The biggest concern is that concrete bridge supports on the river bottom may have been undermined, project manager Kent Peyton said...

Work will 'complete the circle'
Ring road priciest project in Alberta government history

Andrea Sands
Edmonton Journal

Thursday, August 08, 2013

Workers in hard hats and reflective safety vests set steel girders Wednesday on 30-metre high concrete piers topped with concrete caps, a massive foundation to support the bridge deck when Anthony Henday Drive eventually crosses the North Saskatchewan River in northeast Edmonton.

The $4-billion Anthony Henday ring road, which the province calls the most expensive construction project in Alberta government history, is three years from completion, being built through a public-private partnership known as a P3...

It will be nice to have it completed for a variety of reasons, perhaps now we can have a more concentrated focus on LRT.

Luckily we have not had to deal with any sort of drama like they have in Calgary with Tsuu T'ina holding up progress on Stoney Trail.

I was out at waste management a few weeks back and was amazed at the forest of steel piles. Then flying over on Tuesday you see how much has actually been completed already. quite spectacular from the air.

It will be fantastic when completed. We live in northeast Edmonton by Manning Freeway and it amazing how little time it takes us to get to all parts of the city using the Henday. Should have been done 20 years ago.

You can say that again.
I must say I'm jelous of you guys getting a completed ring, that is exciting.
I was up in Edmonton about a month ago and saw all the construction on the NE leg and it was "mindblowing".
I'm glad Calgary will at least get the SE leg opened this fall.

Coming down the SE Leg by Sherwood Park I could help but think there were Tall Ships in the Harbor.

Those Heartland Transmission towers are MASSIVE. The steel lattice towers easily dwarf the existing towers that ring around the south and east ends of the city.

^ & ^^ Funny you say that, because south of Yellowhead to 91 St. they are constructing the steel lattice structures exactly like those pictured.
