I love the vision for this site. But not the Lombard-style parkade wall depicted in parking option 1. I'd hate to see another half-block-long dead zone blighting what should be prime pedestrian space in the Exchange.

I just wanted to clarify this point - the parkade project is not dead. The proposal from the previous group (Streetside and Sunstone) is dead. There will be a parkade built there, they are just working out the details on who will pay for it........hint, it will be us.

I agree with you. The parking option 1 ( not shown in the building renders posted, but is in the schematics/blueprint) does not mesh well with the proposed structure.

Hopefully they would have options 2 or 3?

Does anyone know who is involved in the Pumphouse development?

I've been curious about what FWS (Sunstone) is planning next - both Sky 2 and Mere (the hotel) are almost done, you'd think/hope they'd have something in the queue for downtown to work on next.

I like so much about what I'm reading in regards to the pumphouse plan - it has medium-high end apartments (desperately needed) instead of only more condos, it's in a brilliant location, and the mixed use sounds actually awesome rather than just the usual "and we'll throw in a ground level spot for a tiny convenience store or something" ideas. Attach a museum of any kind to anything and I'm there

And I love the look of the render... except ironically the way it goes with the original pumphouse as a facade. The tower itself is great to my layman's eye, and I like the pumping station - even as an empty building surrounded by fencing I like it when I drive by. I'm sure it would grow on me though, and honestly if it was ever built the actual building would sadly probably not be as interesting visually anyway.

Pardon my ignorance, but what the heck was the Pumping Station actually used for (and does it have any use today)?

Also, whats the address of this proposed Parkade I hear so much about?

Ahhhhhhh thank you for clearing that up, I was under the impression that it was dead and gone and everyone had just walked away.

I have a question for anyone "in the know" that has some good info on this project. How serious is this? Is it a real proposal that we might see go up in the near future (next couple of years)?

If this is a serious proposal it has instantly become my favorite project. This is ABSOLUTELY what the exchange needs.

And on a side note, how nice is it to see a new project in the exchange that isn't faux historic in design. A blend of modern design and historic warehouses could be stunning.

It was initially constructed for the purpose of fighting fires, a high pressure pumping station, at the begining of the 20th century. It's sat idle and unused for years, some of it's inner workings and mechanical parts have been removed already. Today it's a historical/heritage site, but sitting unused and deteriorating.

It is a real proposal that has been worked on for some time now.....it has a lot of hurdles to cross first however.

That definitely looks like the MTC warehouse to the left of the parkade. Is that a tunnel through the parkade for Amy St.? That would be cool..

With both you and Viking saying this thing is real I am now genuinely excited for this project. And yes it has become my fav project

Great idea we need Headhorse or a MOD for the add. I added it to the exchange thread/basic form, not the layout of the Contruction thread.

i will have a condo in sky 2...and i think its great! anything to improve exchange district/waterfront im all for it! the pumphouse is definitely a heritage building and it will be great to see it in use, rather than just fenced up and being all spray painted. and i work right in the same area too...so thats double great!! now if the parkade goes through, and grocery store goes through, those 2 elements are the big driving factors that will most likely help sell the james lofts, in return making the east exchange a vibrant area. instead of building a parkade itself, it would be nice to see a "hybrid" parkade, ie: grocery store on ground level, a few levels of parkade above, and then some more retail/rentals on levels above that or something in that nature so that the parkade doesn't look just like a parkade.
