Agreed. I might use the Peachtree Center Track for my commute.

Are they using better dividers there or is that just for the rendering (and they'll stick with the plastic ones)?

Plastic... it all comes down to cost. They can do 20 miles with plastic for the same cost that they could do 2 miles with a more expensive bollard or curb. Plus the latter is less flexible in the event that they need to make minor adjustments after installation.

At this point, I believe that we need to get the facilities in place that we can before we focus on aesthetics.

I remember there were plans for a second Atlanta outer bypass to ease traffic on the existing bypass closer to the core of the city. Is that massive proposal cancelled, or frozen. As Atlanta continues to grow fast, so is traffic, any new highway proposals/expansions?

Yes, that part of N Decatur Rd. is an utter emabarassment... Especially being so close to Emory...But the traffic could be even more horrendous than current.

On another note do you know if they are going to pave Cheshire Bridge Rd, it is a disaster...??? Piedmont needs attention too, from 14th street North to Buckhead at Peachtree. ....... Thanks for all of your updates......

How's this for construction news?

GWCCA breaks of negotiations with church over stadium site (AJC)

No deal with Mount Vernon means no south site stadium. Frankly, I'm thrilled to know it'll be on the much larger north site, and walking a half mile from MARTA really isn't a big deal. Glad to hear this!

I'm hyped. The north site really provides more development upside and will accelerate residential and business along the adjacent east-west streets. The whole surrounding area will immediately get more vibe.

I really wish they'd find a way keep the Dome for events such as Georgia State football games, graduation ceremonies, promise keepers conventions, political and etc. Seems a shame to pull it down. The state could lease it out at reduced rates for organizations that can't afford the high-rent newer dome rent, and still come out ahead and gain more visitor traffic.

The area between the Gulch and Northside will need some rethinking, but it's not really a very big piece of property anyway. With the nearby churches and transportation options, but no other businesses, it would perhaps be possible to relocate the Peachtree-Pine shelter to that location. Emory Midtown and a couple of the other owners with deep pockets in the "South of North" area would probably gladly put up some serious funds in order to make that come about.

That's a horrible idea as the costs of maintenance on such a facility are very high and without big time tenants it would be a net lost for the GWCC. As it ages it would become more costly to maintain, attract less tenants, and slowly fall into decay. It makes more financial sense to demolish the building. Not to mention, Blank and the owners of the new stadium are going to do everything they can to generate income from the stadium. See MLS, see hosting college football games, etc. They'll be competitive in any bid the Georgia Dome would provide simply to have tenants. I guess the Georgia Dome could let people use its facilities practically for free, but then it would be even more of a resource suck.

From Today's Atlanta Business Journal

➤ Wood Partners is starting the latest apartment project in Midtown.
The multifamily developer has begun initial site work next to the 20-story Ten Peachtree Place building, which is anchored by AGL Resources Inc. (NYSE: AGL).
The transit-oriented site is next to the Midtown MARTA station.
Wood plans to develop about 400 units, possibly spread out over two buildings.

Is this the lot I think it is? The large parking lot across Peachtree Place from the AGL building and MARTA? If so, amazing. That lot has been in desperate need of redevelopment for years.

Definitely! I'm excited to see what's developed nearby!

I thought it would have been cool for the state to sell it to GSU, but the costs may be too much in the long-run. I hope the Peachtree-Pine shelter is moved even farther away, since I'd hate for the redeveloped Gulch area to have the same problems as SoNo, namely people walking out of the MMPT and having a shelter anywhere nearby. They should move the shelter to the industrial area farther south around, say, Oakland City.

I would think between 15 - 17 stories. Maybe more if the apartments are built on top of a parking garage.
