I just mentioned Best Buy cause I know that Plaza Corp likes to stick with a lot of the same tenants. For example 23% of their properties have a Shoppers Drug Mart. 7% have a Dollarama. 2.8% have Best Buy or Future Shop. I won't get into big numbers but they do tend to pick tenants the have good relationships with.

Moncton Retail Update:

Marshall's at the Northwest Centre:

A lot of progress on this one since my last photo update. There has also been progress at the Target at the Northwest Centre too, but not enough to justify a new photo. Curiously, Marshall's is still not slated to open until Spring 2014 while Target will open this fall.......

Banana Republic Factory Store at the Mapleton Centre:

Exterior signage is now up and there has been considerable work on internal fixtures. I don't know when this is opening, but given the progress, I wonder if it won't be open by late August.......

Also, Urban Behavior is moving into Building "C", just next to Banana Republic. They have help wanted signs plastered on the windows.

Mode Choc will open their first non-Quebec location at Mapleton Center this fall. Their web site is completely French, except for half of the "about" page...

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

All their existing stores are in the Saguenay and Bas St-Laurent, It's odd they would expand to NB before saturating the rest of the Quebec market....

Updated list of stores ay the Mapleton Centre:

- Golf Town
- Cleve's Source for Sports
- Ocean Trail Source for Adventure
- Bed, Bath and Beyond
- PetSmart
- Bombay Company
- Wicker Emporium
- Carters/OshKosh
- Moxie's Bar & Grill

- Banana Republic Factory Store (opening soon)
- Urban Behavior (opening soon)
- Mode Choc (opening soon)

I think that Marshalls might open sooner than previously announced...
That construction is going up really fast.

The Mode Choc store is moving into the standalone building at the end of the Mapleton Centre where Tag was going to go. That's a pretty large retail space, I wonder how large their other stores in Quebec tend to be......

When you check out their website, Mode Choc appears to be very similar to Tag, with an assortment of clothing for men, women and children with home decor items for sale as well.

Mode Choc.... ugh! another Tag in the making, whatever.
Can't they just wait for something worthwhile?

Well I'd personally rather the space be occupied...if it is indeed a clunker store as you suspect, than it should be empty soon enough and open to all the other expanding retail giants

Fossil at Champlain Place opening July 29th.

Also, the Home Essence store next to Eddie Bauer has closed. It was only ever a "filler" store anyway. I presume there is a new tenant lined up for this space.........

Wow! Fossil has a black polished granite exterior finish, who would've thought?
Seriously, it looks good and I really like that the entrance is at an angle.

Well, the Halifax Wal-Mart Supercentre may be the first one in the Maritimes, but the Moncton North Wal-Mart Supercentre will be bigger (153,000 sq ft vs 145,000 sq ft)......

The Dartmouth Crossing, Bedford Commons, and Fredericton North Supercentres look like they are all going to be over 150,000 sq ft.

In the article I read it said 13,500 sq. meters and that's a little over 145,000 sq. ft.

I'm pretty sure the Moncton north Walmart was the largest in Atlantic Canada when it was built...that was before Dartmouth crossing though...with its current expansion it will certainly remain the largest in the NB/PEI region...beyond that I'm not sure.

Also I went to the mall Walmart yesterday and they already have interior signage up "welcome to your Walmart super center"...it's not very "super" in it's current state though

According to this Dartmouth Crossing site plan, the Wal-Mart Supercentre there will be 200,000 square feet. By far the largest in Atlantic Canada.
